Autopilot no longer permanently disables itself after 2 warnings?

So I was experimenting and noticed tonight that if I let autopilot beep more than twice in a row to where it turns red and starts slowing down, it's no longer disabled until you put it in park. I was able to turn it right back on.

The weird thing is, I haven't updated my software in almost a year (I'm on 8.1 still because I like keeping waze browser open on the bottom screen with the camera on top). I'm wondering if tesla can push setting or restriction changes OTA? Because this is definitely changed behavior.

Have a 2016 facelift Model S 90D with AP 1.0
