Auxiliary battery and charging system

I am looking to add some amplifiers and additional 12v equipment to my vehicle, but from what I have read trying to power from the cars DC/DC converter directly is just asking for trouble and voided warranty issues. Have likewise read that powering from the Penthouse connector can lead to high voltage issues and likewise, warranty problems. I was therefore thinking of adding a completely separate battery system with a pair of high AH batteries dedicated for my equipment and to charge them with a Victron Energy isolated DC/DC converter which is powered by the cars rear 12v outlet as opposed to trying to tying them directly into the cars 12v system.

This would mean that my batteries when low, will get a steady 10amp charge from the cars aux 12v port and stay completely independent from the cars electrical system otherwise. Has anyone ran a similar setup before with success?
