Bait and Switch of Trade-in Value?

I downloaded the manual from the website in PDF form, and put it in iBooks on my iPad so that I could read it like a book.

That's what I did, on my iPad Pro the pages are almost 8 1/2 x 11 so are quite legible.

Virtual material is harder to browse, and, unless it has a good indexing system, harder to look up.

Index works well, all page numbers are clickable making it easy to jump to the content you're looking for. Additionally, since the PDF is text (as opposed to pictures of text) you can search using any arbitrary word.

Tesla ended up honoring the original quote. They took it to the wire. I told the guy who called me when he was on the way with the car, told him I expected the original offer. He was noncommittal, but a few minutes later I got an email telling me they would. Four different delivery specialists contacted me in the last 24 hours, each saying they knew nothing of the original offer. I sent more than a dozen texts or emails.

The guy who delivered the car was great. He was patient while I checked the car carefully, explaining anything I queried. His paperwork still reflected the $2K lower trade-in, but the Tesla website had the corrected version, so that was OK.\

Last night I discovered the manuals had only safety and roadside assistance information. No hardcopy of the manual. I hoped there was one and this was an oversight, so I reached out to two of the four delivery specialists by email. No response, so I called. "Ee don't provide hardcopy, you can download if you want."

No hard copy manual (which is the same as BMW right now as well, actually). Any hard printed manual would be out of date pretty fast on any car, and on a Tesla, it would only be as good as the next software update. Translated, a paper manual would be worthless to you in about 1-2 months.

I downloaded the manual from the website in PDF form, and put it in iBooks on my iPad so that I could read it like a book. Insert your tablet of choice if you have one. Worked great, and will be easy for me to upload new PDFs and still read it while I am in the car or on the go.

Congratulations on your new tesla btw!

Does the 3 MCU not have a section for the manual under controls? in the S you can access the fully indexed manual by going into controls.

Yes, there is a manual in the car, on the touch screen, but... its in the car, on the touch screen (which is not somewhere you can refer to when you are not in the car).

The current Model 3 manual is 182 pages. Maybe its a bit old school, but I am one who actually likes to RTFM, not just after I want to figure out how to do something, but when I first get a new car, to understand how to operate some of the more obscure things. For a lot of us, this is our first Tesla, and while it is an object with 4 wheels that transports us from place to place with our input, it is different in many ways from any other vehicle we have owned.

Speaking for myself, I felt it was important to go over the entire manual even more closely than I would buying / Leasing another car, and I didnt want to have to read a 182 page manual sitting in the car.

Agreed, I actually also fully read my manual before I got my first S, then again after I was assigned a VIN I still had to wait almost 4 months for the car so I had plenty of time and noticed that under the My Tesla section all the docs for my car had been uploaded. I even bough the "Owning a Model S" book since it was my first EV and I was doing as much research as possible. ( I think the author also wrote a Model 3 version of the book)

Giavid, You're in the stronger position. They have your deposit but want a sale, and they' committed to their original offer . Tell them you plan on paying based on your original quote. Tesla didn't relent with me until the delivery driver was on his way.

My feeling was: I'm trading my car in years earlier than I like - if the deal falls through, it's not a big deal. Small Claims Court was a possibility - either to get my deposit back if it were not repaid, or to reclaim the difference after going through with the lower quote.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

So, I was told that when someone submits an online quote it is only an estimate. Even though it says good for 30 days. They should make it clear that this really isn’t a true estimate.
On a positive note. I was told they will honor a Carmax quote. Luckily, my Carmax quote is only $200 lower than my original quote.
I feel I can’t really make this an issue. I’m in Texas and Tesla can’t ship the car until it’s paid in full. I’m getting close to the deadline and can’t afford to miss out on the tax credit.

The offer stated it was good for 30 days, but they didn't mean it? So much for Tesla changing the way cars are sold! I understand your reluctance to go the mat for $200 when you might miss $3750, but Tesla wants the deal to happen this quarter too. If they've reneged on a written statement, why believe a verbal promise from someone low on the totem pole?

I'm having the same issue with my trade-in value. I got a Trade-In quote 2+ weeks ago and last night I decided to pull the trigger and order the M3 LR. While placing the online order, Tesla website said that I needed a new quote which ended up being $1,200 below the original one.
I don't understand. I have added only a couple of hundred miles to my car since the original quote so, to me this is a bait and switch that I will not tolerate. I'll be cancelling the order today.

They match Carmax. Did you ever try to see what’d they’d offer you?

It’s not just Tesla. Most car dealerships change trade in values based on current demand. It’s not a Tesla thing, it’s an industry thing especially because Tesla isn’t the one taking your trade-in. It is frustrating, hope they honor your original value, but maybe you can get ahold of someone that actually has a say.
