Warning for Model Y owners. Though I own a Model Y, not a Model S, this thread inspired me to order a Pet Loader.
I wanted to load via a rear side door. I followed the website's video guides, cut out a piece of cardboard to confirm my measurements, and ordered the Pet Loader Ultra Light 14.5" Platform 4-Step variant for $274.00 plus $45.56 shipping.
When the product arrived, I did a test fit without my dog. It put scratches on the lower plastic of my door, scratches on the plastic wheel well surround, and because less than half of the top platform was supported by the seat, the whole stair was unstable. I did multiple rounds of emails with pictures to the seller, and ultimately we both gave up. The owner sent me a return label, and I sent the product back. A few days later I received a partial refund, minus $90.56 apparently to cover the shipping both ways.
The issues with loading a Model Y via a rear side door are:
- The door does not open very wide.
- The lower bin of the door makes the lower part of the opening even narrower than the top.
- The rear seat is set back of the door opening, so there is relatively little seat protruding to support a ramp or stair.
- The door also does not have a level sill to support a ramp or stair.
Since this is the Model S forum, please post any Model Y specific responses to thread:
