Like a good guy (my wife has COPD), I (finally) went to install replacement air filters (ala Abstract Ocean) in my early 2016 model 3 (#11643). Followed the instructions, but when I opened things up, the innards looked nothing like the instructions. In fact, looking at the air intake system from the frunk, it appears that there are no air filters whatsoever on this early model...just a wide mesh screen (that was covered with dead oak leaves). Anybody else have this experience? Or are there filters buried somewhere that are only mildly inaccessible?

Do you mean "Early 2016 model S" (not model 3)... cause there is no such thing as an "early 2016 model 3" and the only other post you have here on TMC is in the model S subforum

Well just in case you did mean an early Model 3 (and just got the year wrong), here is a video I've used as a guide to replacing cabin air filters:

Yes, on the model 3, the cabin air filters are accessible from underneath/on the left side of the glove box.
