California CAV decal - can I wait 1 year to apply?

I picked up my car a month ago, I know I can apply for the HOV decal in California that will last 4 years.

I'm curious though if I don't need the decal right now, can I wait to apply in January 2021, so then my decals expire in 2025?

Yes. Unless california gets rid of the program.

The sticker program is over in 2025 I believe.

You can wait as long as you want (and you can even register used EVs if they have never applied previously). Stickers from 2021 will expire 1/1/25. Currently, the CAV decal program will end, and any remaining valid decals will expire on September 30, 2025.
