Charge for "Automated Firmware Check"

My wife made an appointment to have a wheel alignment at the Tesla Service Center here in Portland. When I received the estimate today, in addition to the $231 price for the alignment, the estimate had an additional item:

Automated Firmware Check ..... $41.25

Does anyone know what that would be for? I find it hard to believe they would need to spend $40 to automatically check my firmware before they can perform a wheel alignment.

They are going to charge you to perform a service you didn't ask for? Is it a diagnostic fee? If not that is messed up.
