My model 3 is coming next week. I’ve installed a 240 v 50 A outlet and have a14-50 adapter. I think I have everything I need for home charging, my friend says no. Who’s right?

That's my set up...with the addition of a cable organizer (mentioned by the other poster). Works well, you're ready to go.
Search Amazon or elsewhere for a Tesla Cable Organizer. You coil the charging cable around it when not in use. You can also plug in the cable, but I rarely do this...just leave the cable coiled on the hook.

I would like to know what else your friend thinks you need too... Maybe he means a NEMA 10-30 or 14-30 adapter so you can charge from the dryer outlet at his house. I do have those and have had occasions to use them.
