What’s safer/better assuming both reach 25 ft 12/3 cord or 50 ft 10/3 cord?

Need to know the circuit amperage.

I would consider the extension cord as if it was NM-B, rated for 60C(140F):

12 gauge - up to 20 amps
10 gauge - up to 30 amps.

If 20 amps or less, the shorter extension cord is better (assuming the same quality) as there will be slightly less voltage drop and the shorter cord is less likely to be a trip hazard.
