I've seen a lot of confusion over this.
Last I checked, this was the situation:
-- the general Chinese tariff on car imports was 25%
-- they lowered this to 15% on electric cars
-- but then they added an extra tariff on car imports *from the US* of 25%
-- the Shanghai Free Trade Zone carries the general tarriff but is not considered to be in the US
So, if I'm not mistaken,
-- US-manufactured ICE: 50% tarriff
-- US-manufacured EV: 40%
-- Shanghai Free Trade Zone manufactured ICE: 25%
-- Shanghai Free Trade Zone manufactured EV: 15%
-- Mainland China manufactured ICE: 0%
-- Mainland China manufactured EV: 0%
Am I mistaken? Can people confirm details? I gleaned this from a dozen articles over many weeks, and do not have the references to hand.
