Tesla (the company) killing itself slowly?

It's worse. If the serious fans are having this much trouble, just try to imagine what ordinary people without "connections" are experiencing. There appears to be someone at executive level in Tesla who is deliberately obstructing communications with customers. I have a contact at Fremont...

Going on 4 weeks waiting on a part!

I will say 4 weeks for a part is something I've had happen on other brands. (3 months, however, is NOT.) The bigger problem is the communications failures; they should know when the part is arriving, it should arrive on time, they should schedule service for right after it arrives, you get the...

    Buyback Questions

There's a long story. His autopilot failed. He seems to have a faulty DAS computer, but Tesla doesn't want to replace it. Hiis X sat at the service center for five weeks without having any repairs done on it, in the baking sun, and developed the yellow screen during that time period. He...

Front hood won't stay shut in the heat - Tesla Service 4 attempts to resolve

This is a very unusual problem. I am sorry to hear that Tesla's service hell is making the problem worse for you.

Service and communication (out of main)

Yeah, I don't use the app, so I'm watching the website refusing to schedule mobile service. This is amateurish, with mobile service only accessible through an app and service centers only through the website, and neither through the other means. Could be worse. (Other things are worse, of...

The clowns I know, who are all extremely careful to follow rules (clowning is dangerous and can cause customer lawsuits, so they follow strict rules) would be offended by that statement

    Supercharger - Lake Geneva, WI

From what I know about how this is done, you can remove it (and they *should*), but you have to pretty much encase it / wrap it in order to remove it (so that it comes out encased), so it actually costs more than leaving it in place. It's possible to take it out encased in dirt; this can be...

    Shorting Oil, Hedging Tesla

They're already four years into that. So that'll be tough. But I think they can do it, because China uses big-stick methods like banning gasoline car registrations. They've already put 10 times as many electric buses on the road as the rest of the world combined, which probably accounts for a...

    Supercharger - Alexandria, MN

Let me add my support if you decide to do a media campaign. I live in upstate NY, but I have friends in North Dakota, and I can't visit them by car due to the "North Dakota Black Hole of Supercharging". I *think* Tesla understands the importance of making it possible to get everywhere... but...

    How does one justify it...

For me? I cursed whenever I went to a gas (petrol) station. So I justified the monetary expenditure as being worth the peace of mind. I didn't know what a screaming nightmare it would be trying to get service. (Actually *getting* service is fine once they're *doing* the service, it's...

Service and communication (out of main)

Followup: I just found out that any service center which is fully booked registers on the website as "can't book online" / "nonexistent", and the website directs you to the next service center hundreds of miles away rather than giving you a way to contact the fully-booked service center. Geez.

Long-Term Fundamentals of Tesla Motors (TSLA)

Fair enough -- then they need to learn how to actually sell used cars. Tesla lacks the know-how and the tech docs to resell them -- they're selling pigs in pokes at the moment, where people can't even find out what the specs, condition, and repair history of the car they're getting are. That's...

Service and communication (out of main)

Well, since you can't make mobile service requests directly any more, I'm not surprised. According to multiple sources, the only way to reach Mobile Service now is to first schedule an appointment with a service center. Then the service center decides whether to ask Mobile Service whether they...

Good news! Feeling very grumpy about all this, I don't remember which post it was but I'm sure there was *something* to disagree with. Still, my bottom line is, for corporate survival, it has to be possible to reach someone through some documented channel which any customer can use...

Long-Term Fundamentals of Tesla Motors (TSLA)

So, I still think the only thing which can actually kill Tesla is not answering the phone. But... in things which will *hurt* Tesla if they manage to start answering the phone.... (A) I'm beginning to get worried that Tesla is trying to avoid complying with its warranty obligations, express or...

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

READ WHAT I SAID. I said "if there's a comprehensive screen replacement needed under warranty, the warranty reserve won't cover it." This has already been required for Model X and Model S (and they're trying to deny valid warranty claims, which is very uncool -- they're losing arbitrations)...

On the other hand, the independent (no franchise) shops I've dealt with will take any opportunity to have an edge, including training a guy to handle EVs.

Service and communication (out of main)

What kills me is that he recognizes this and then the company screws up the extremely basic thing of making it possible for people to get a first point of contact with service. All they have to do is answer their phones. Really, that is all. But if they don't, demand will dry up faster than...

Service and communication (out of main)

That's because they're trying to evade warranty claims. Go look at the "yellowing screen" thread in the Model X forum -- people are winning arbitration cases against Tesla over this. Repeatedly. Warranty reserve is too low. This isn't make-or-break, financially; they can afford higher...

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

Roughly 500,000 cars on the road. 941M / 500,000 cars == <$2000/screen, whch isn't enough. Do the math.

Love Tesla. Love my car. Wish Tesla would please fix the USB Audio Player.

Yeah, at this point I'd be fine with Android Auto + aptX. Tesla has implemented neither.

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Weird. It'll let me do this on one of my cars but the other one DOES NOT HAVE A SUPPORT REQUEST OPTION on the website. Won't happen; they're not listening. If I had time, I'd try the federal warranty-violation lawsuit route, which might do the trick. In the meantime, I have an executive...

MX or ICE - so hard to decide

Popstpone buying. If you cannot put it off, buy the Volvo. The problem is customer disservice from Tesla. You want to be able to contact service, right? Then, as of today, you have to buy the Volvo. I REALLY REALLY wish this was not the case. Maybe Tesla will fix this. Maybe in a month...
  26. N

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

I believe Tesla has under provisioned for warranty. One full set of screen recalls exceeds the whole reserve. That said, I also think doubling the warranty reserve does not really hurt too much in the long run.

    Shorting Oil, Hedging Tesla

First renewables will be overbuilt. Then profiteers will install batteries to grab the cheap energy from peak production periods, and release it later when prices are higher.
  28. N

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, or they split the cost. My NEMA 14-50 cost under $250 to install; this is manageable by either landlord or tenant, for economic classes where an electric car is a possible purchase anyway.

    Shorting Oil, Hedging Tesla

Next they'll be saying that renewables make sense up to 90%. When renewables are at over 100% of electricity needs (which they will be -- they'll get overbuilt and batteries will store the excess), I think that's when the oil strategists will get up.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

No it isn't. That's actually wrong. There are a very large number of people renting single-family homes or duplexes. If those don't have access to 240V charging, it's often easy to install and the landlord will generally cooperate.

Extremely loud air conditioning and while charging

Yes. If you're hearing thumps, excessive vibration, or grinding, that's not normal. If it's very loud but super-smooth, it might just be very hot.
  36. N

Extremely loud air conditioning and while charging

Yes, something has gone wrong with the compressor in the A/C. You need to get it checked out and fixed ASAP. It may be leaking refrigerant, and the refrigerant causes ozone depletion and global warming (though not as bad as the old Freon, it still does).
  37. N

A/C Compressor finally failed. But $3400??!

Thump means it's dying. It shouldn't be doing that. I have two 2013 Model Ses, and the AC is loud, but it does not "thump".

    The Resource Angle

Geez, I wonder if the metallic waste streams have higher nickel concentrations than the ores. That's generally the situation which leads to heavy recycling (and often reprocessing of slag heaps, and very rarely mining of landfills). Looking at the lithium situation, I think the problem is...

Thanks, Karen -- you're the first person to verify that they're still using separate Model S and Model X body lines. (Which remains odd.) OK, that's actually a little nonspecific on the part of the customer service agent. After you get free Supercharging turned back on, push to get a refund for the previous Supercharging which was supposed to be free - -be very specific about your request, and make it in writing. I was hoping...

Musk actually addressed this on the earnings call though nobody asked. He and Zach Kirkhorn specifically said that this capex level was sustainable, and although it might look like they were postponing capex, they weren't, they'd just figured out how to do things cheaper. You can believe them...

OT Yeah. Interesting example: I live in a heavy-brake-pad-use area (lots and lots and lots of hills). So my friction brakes actually get used and my brake pads do get wear. But I haven't replaced my Tesla brake pads in 6 years. I used to have to replace Toyota brake pads every three...
