Creation of the Boring Sea

Wonder what would happen if Elon bores a tunnel from the Pacific Ocean to the Death Valley. It is below sea level, so there would be an inland sea. Would this hydrate the region?

Similar thoughts on the Salton sea. Salton sea would need to be controlled so El Centro does not end up part of the Salton sea.

Well, looks like there's plans to extract lithium from the ground water, so that would clean up the water.

I proposed this idea to high-level Egyptians several decades ago. The volume of fillable space in the Qattara Depression is about two orders of magnitude larger than that in Death Valley.
The amount of hydropower such a project could provide is slightly larger than ALL the world’s other hydropower plants, combined. My Best Case scenario was to maintain the inflow from the Mediterranean at a level equal to the amount of evaporation, in order to give it unlimited life. Such power levels would make the ecologically-disastrous Aswan Dam so negligible that demolishing it would make zero difference in Egypt’s electric output, and would enable natural flooding from the Nile’s spring flows once again to replenish the country’s staggeringly degraded agricultural soils, once some of the world’s finest.

All this was, alas, before the sociopolitical storms sweeping that part of the world.

Death Valley? As in….part of California? As in….into a National Park? Piece of cake.

Also: Israel has looked into the same concept for the Dead Sea; the project foundered upon intransigence from Jordan, which shares that wasteland.
