Dash cam installer NYC or LI?

Hi Hank, I found your recommendation on google and called AfterFx this morning. Their surprising response inspired me to join this forum and ask you directly. They quoted me $800 (!) for the blackvue 2 channel dashcam PLUS $150/hr (estimated 4!) hrs work for a grand total of $1400 plus tax. North state custom in Mt Kisco who fixes for the Tesla Service Center in Mt Kisco when repairs are beyond the service center's capacity's have never heard of AfterFX. I then called calibred customs (Johnny) who just told me he might be planning a trip in August and quoted me $800 total for 2 channel and $1600 total for 4 channel of the blackvue. That seems in line with the $400 install charge quoted elsewhere in this thread plus a $400 retail charge on the camera. Any idea what is going on with Afterfx's huge quote?

It's a little drive for you guys, but I use AFterFX Customs in Stamford, CT.

They've installed my Escort 9500ci radar/laser detector into both Model Ss I've owned as well as dashcams. They do tons of other customizations like tints and wheels and real high-end "show car" stuff.

They probably could do a dashcam install in about an hour while you wait, they charge $150/hour and have done a ton of Tesla's, so they know their way around the car.

But as mentioned above, it's pretty easy to do a dashcam install yourself.. it's a little harder to install the rear dashcam camera if you have a 2-channel system. In my case, I've installed the main unit up front (getting power from the OBDII port) and then had AfterFX install the rear camera because I always break stuff when removing trim panels, so I let them do that part of the install.

If you go, tell BJ that Hank sent you there.

I just called back and afterfx revised their blackvue hardware only quote to $400 but still maintained that installation was 4 hrs x $150 = $600.
If you are an experience installer for Teslas then it should not take you more then 1.5 hrs to install a 2-ch system. I got mine installed by Johnny a few weeks ago when he was in NJ and it took him around an hour.

we were able to swallow the price, & the work was great, but one thing that was kind of disconcerting is that when someone comes out, I E, no brick-&-mortar location .... if something goes horribly wrong, what do you do then. it's been months, so it doesn't seem to be an issue now. but it certainly crossed our minds.

In NJ. I got Blackvue 2ch installed for $100 on my X. He quoted me $60 for and S, which he thought I was looking for. My S installation cost $775 with hardware, so I know this was a good deal. Blackvue Cloud is NOT straight forward, but the dash cam install is great. PM me for details.

Sorry, do you mean that you did get custom fx to do install your cams? If so, did they usr all 4 hours they quoted? And were you including Johnny from Calibred among the non brick-and-morter guys? Calibred looks like a brick and morter in California. I did a superficial google of it and there were plenty of local reviews there. Thanks
