The article was written by H. Sterling Burnett of the Heartland Institute. I’m ashamed to admit it is based here in Chicagoland. They claim to be a think tank but really are a public relations firm. For decades they were primarily funded by the tobacco industry to publicly deny the adverse health effects of their products. Now their principal support comes from the oil industry to deny climate change and publicly disperse FUD about alternative energy products including electric cars. The Koch brothers are suspected donors.

Detroit is the home of the American auto (internal combustion engine) industry which employs many of the readers of the Detroit News. Meanwhile, advertising is the lifeblood of the media. The Detroit automakers, their dealers and the oil industry advertise in the Detroit News. Tesla pays no one for advertising.
