Dragstrip comparison - 3 LR RWD to Model 3 Performance.

The local dragstrip finally open yesterday, so I took my 3 LR RWD out for some runs. It was a good day for racing, but that brought out many other people and they all got in my way, so I had 3 runs in 4 hours, about average for this track.

On my second run happened to get paired up with a performance 3, so here's the timeslip, showing the comparison. Long story short, 2 seconds and 13 mph in the quarter mile. But nearly half a second quicker in the 60 foot! I easily take off from red lights and leave everyone behind, even when I'm not trying to, with 60 foots in the 2.20-2.25 range.

I also noticed that the small performace improvement update we had over the winter seems to work. My 3 never ran better than 13.52 @ 103 before, today I had runs of 13.37, 13.42, and 13.43, all at 105 mph.

I saw another Model 3 there, it was an AWD non-P, he ran 12.37 @ 113 the one time I watched his run.

Last time I was at the dragstrip by contrast I was able to hotlap most of my runs...

Nice to see additional concrete evidence of the performance improvement from the OTA. I haven't been since the last update, but I'll get out there sooner or later.

I forgot to mention that all 3 runs were with 91% battery power. The track has power outlets (just 5-15s and 5-20s) for people to use, so I'd go plug in the car between runs. I've sent messages to the track people about getting electric car chargers in the place, but so far they don't see it my way.

This is awesome as I have a LR RWD and I don’t seem to ever see performance stats posted about as it’s the neglected/discontinued model.

@timk225 Any idea what the true 0-60 times w/ the performance updates are now? It annoys me that Tesla still posts LR RWD as 5.0s but I think I’ve seen some others report lower around 4.7 which feels about right.

I used my video editing software (Windows Movie Maker 2.6) to go through the launches frame by frame, and the 0-60 times seem to be in the range of 4.90 - 5.05. I was hoping for lower numbers also, but this is what I can tell from the time coded video.

I feel like every other model has improved by ~.03 since originally launched except for the LR RWD. Wish Tesla showed it more love

Thank you for that! It's so hard to find 1/4 time on SR+ or LR.

Here's mine last week, I'm really having a hard time getting out of the box and can't wait to try it at a track with more prep and glue for the 60'.

I didn't realize the gap on a 2 second difference was so large. The M3P looked to cross the line about 100 yards ahead of you. Wow.

Here are my times for a stealth performance for another reference. 11.498 @ 118 was my best.
State of charge started at 91% and dipped to 80% by the last run. Overall I was impressed! The launch is a little soft with only 1.8 60’ times.

I am going to take a bit more out, hope for a better time. The mats are still in there and I had stuff in the car. We'll see. Also, maybe a bit more altitude (I am at sea level).
These cars are opposite of ICE in the sense that altitude is actually helpful. Way less drag at high speeds.

The thinner air also negatively affects ICE engines because there is less air for the engine.

Was this done with one of those drag racing calculators? They aren't as accurate as a real dragstrip.

And no SR, SR+, or MR should be faster than a LR RWD, the LR RWD costs more. The SR may be a few hundred pounds lighter but Tesla has to dial back its speed to make it slower.

You are joking right? You want them to reduce performance because the car you spent more on is slower?
It was on a dragy device. Our track is closed. I've made 200+ passes in the past 4 years on my 3 cars there (local NHRA track) and used a dragy for almost everything. Consistently, it is within half a tenth. Generally, the track is a little quicker.
I did a slew of 10.85's on the dragy and ran 10.78 at the track with a worse launch (1.65 vs 1.7)
