I was asked to post this by the folks at Sun Country Highway. They've made this an annual event, with the goal to promote EV adoption. And, yes, to promote their (mostly free) charging network too.
E-Mazing Race
From Leslie Wittenberg (Coordinator, E-Mazing Race):
We'd like to draw attention to the timing - Monday September 29 to Saturday November 1, 2014 and some exciting changes for this year, including the ability to START AND END ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA! The flexible race concept is designed to engage all EV drivers and provide a fun, local, bonding experience for friends and clubs as well as an epic cross-continent challenge for serious competitors. Official start line in Summerside, PEI (with pre-race incentives to travel to island), and Finish Line celebration in Vancouver, BC.
The E-mazing Race App will manage the entire experience – connecting racers across the continent; sharing journeys; engaging followers and marking everyone on a Leaderboard. Racers participating in official start lines and finish receive additional incentives. A cool new way to raise awareness and funds for EV sustainability!
Our finish line will coincide nicely with EV2014VE Vancouver conference. We are aiming to incorporate our race Leaderboard into our exhibit space and attract as many racers as possible to Vancouver.

Tesla drivers willing to take the serious challenge have the best odds of winning; but the concept this year should make signing up an easy choice for all EV owners. It doesn't matter if you race; your can participate by following and posting your charging on the app; add to EV awareness and, if nothing else, your small contribution goes toward EV infrastructure development (win/win).
