Gen 3 Wall Connector - Flashing Blue Light

Great tip. Tried but no love. I even gave the car a re-boot and tried it with various schedules on and off. Also a great tip. I'll look into that and see. In the mean time I've logged a ticket with Tesla Support to see what they say. It doesn't seem to affect anything other than I wish I...

Gen 3 Wall Connector - Flashing Blue Light

Replaced my old Gen 1 HPWC with a new Gen 3 Wall Connector the other day. While charging, I get the normal stream of green lights, but when done I get this blinking blue rather than the steady green my old Gen 1 displayed. Nothing in the manual about a blinking blue... only a steady blue...

Falcon Wing upper glass hairline cracks with no apparent reason

I have not noticed any problems with my X but am aware of another local owner who did and Tesla replaced under warranty.

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

Tesla Service ran the UV tool on my screen. My first yellow screen was just replaced outright, so this is the replacement screen that went bad. They got most of it, but I still have tinges of yellow in certain spots. May mention it next time I'm in for something else.

The cost to fill my Tesla each day

A while back I did some math with my former Model S 85 (I have an X 100D now) and calculated that if I drove 20,000 km a year, my car would use exactly the same amount of energy that my electric water heater does. I actually drive around 35,000 km a year.

    Supercharger - London, ON

Well, as others have said, it could be Tesla wanting to commission them in batches. I did hear in one instance that a delay was caused by getting a particular telco to install an internet connection. I would have thought they'd go wireless, but was told these stations have a hardwired internet...

    Supercharger - London, ON

I'm somewhat surprised to hear this. Once you have a signed Offer to Connect and you have your ESA Connection Authorization, the connection time limit applies. There are even timelines on how long a utility has to respond to initial requests, prepare the Offer and so forth, all codified in the...

    Supercharger - London, ON

The utility usually isn't the problem. In fact, they are legally obligated to connect in a timely fashion. From the Ontario Electricity Distribution System Code: 7.2.2 A connection for a new service request for a high voltage (>750 volts) service must be completed within 10 business days from...

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

Toronto, Canada area centers are starting to get the tools. Some local owners are reporting success. The center closest to me doesn't have the tool yet (on order) but they tell me it can't be done by Ranger as it is about a 2 hour procedure.

Tesla Model X 7-seater (2018), floor liners question

I did something a bit odd. Since both the Tesla and WeatherTech mats are identical, I priced checked and ended up with WeatherTech brand for the front seats and Tesla brand for the second row (didn't bother with 3rd row as I rarely use it). Saved a bit of money when I bought. Agreed! That's...

The cost to fill my Tesla each day

Ontario deregulated and unbundled electricity prices a while back. Typically people only consider the 6.5/9.4/13.2 cents commodity charges for Off, Mid and On-peak power, which is what most utility graphs show, You have to add the volumetric Distribution and Regulatory fees, Loss Factor...

    Luxury Carpets?

Yes, I find them quite comfortable on the feet. In Canada, I have to use rubber mats in the winter (I use WeatherTech mats), but can't wait to swap them out for the nice plush carpets in Spring.

Sleeping On AP - Elephant in the Room

Take it in for service. It is absolutely not supposed to do that... for obvious reasons. There are many, many YouTube videos demonstrating the whole warning... slow down... 4-ways flashers and stop routine the car does. What it will do.... and maybe this is confusion...is that after you take...

Sleeping On AP - Elephant in the Room

Not quite. Tesla's AP has never worked that way. You will get a succession of louder audio and visual alerts, then it will put the 4-ways on and come to a stop.

    Luxury Carpets?

I'm not sure a picture of my mats would be particularly helpful, but here is a link to the particular mats I purchased directly from Lloyd's. I went for the Luxe Mats. I bought them for the first two rows and cargo area in my X (will probably never use the third row) and I also had them in my...

Warning for those charging using 120v

Fair enough. Typically the time interval between 87-88, 88-89 and 89-90 will be roughly the same and it will click off and go to Charge Complete fairly soon after hitting 90. In those rare instances I mentioned, the car would sit at 90% (on the display) for considerably longer (once for almost...

Warning for those charging using 120v

Could be that it is just using the "I'm plugged in" signal, but to me, seems unlikely. When I say the car is drawing zero, I really mean zero... not even a mA of current. However... I have seen instances of the car continuing to "charge" (at the full amps I have it set for) for some time after...

What hybrid (plugin hybrid) or EV for my wife that can't deal with Model 3

Same boat. Had a Model 3 reservation, but my wife didn't like it. She doesn't like low sedans as she has trouble with her knees and likes something that sits a little higher... like my Model X (she didn't like my former Model S for the same reason). She was also concerned about "forgetting to...

Warning for those charging using 120v

I had an S and now drive an X so there might be a difference with the 3 but.... I've heard the same argument for S and X as well, but have no evidence that this is actually happening. I have a sub-meter on my car's charging circuit and as soon as the car reaches it's set point, current from the...

Exceeding maximum weight on towbar when using cycle rack

Here is a shot of the instructions right on the hitch receiver. Some of the "limitation" may be due to the way the Bosal receiver attaches to the bar on the car. You will also note there is very little latitude on the length, rise and drop (none) allowed when towing a trailer. I have heard of...

    SuperCharger - North Bay, ON

If in North Bay proper, it is likely North Bay Hydro that will connect. There are strict rules imposed by the Regulator governing how long a utility can take to connect any new electrical service. It is generally not the utility holding things up. The customer (in this case, Tesla) has to ensure...

    Yellow/amber rear turn indicators?

Thanks for the link. But these Toyota models are very odd. I tried to find a Google image quickly, but couldn't. There is a reasonably sized red area on the tail light that serves as the running lights, but when the brakes are applied, it is this tiny little super bright "spot" near the outside...

Don’t think much of these new stall designs

The old "temporary" superchargers were like this. Pull in on one side, back in on the other. I used to use this one in Aurora IL back in 2013 but it unfortunately is gone now. (found the image on Google)

    Yellow/amber rear turn indicators?

I've seen this mentioned before. I am in Canada, and our standards are largely harmonized with the US. But I've noticed a couple of new Lexus and Toyota models that have the smallest brake lights I've ever seen. About the size of a silver dollar. It's like looking at a laser pointer when they...

Ontario: Autopilot issues between 400 and Orillia?

Ontario: Autopilot issues between 400 and Orillia?

Not on my 2018 X 100D. It's definitely hitting the brakes. Sometimes I even get that "clackity" sound that the brakes make when it has to hit them on AutoPilot.
  30. mknox

Ontario: Autopilot issues between 400 and Orillia?

Yes, widely known and I have hit it as well. I do wish Tesla would just coast down to the new speed instead of pounding the brakes. Every time I enter a new, slower speed limit zone (even when appropriate) the car pounds the brakes to get to the new speed asap. Dangerous as far as I'm concerned.

Ontario Buyers: Green Plates vs Normal Plates

LOL... I would have had GVAA plates if Tesla didn't have my early 2013 S registered as a "6-cylinder gas" car in the MTO database. Drove it for a couple of years with plain old blue number plates. When I did finally get around to getting green plates, they were GVAH. Traded those plates in back...

    Dog mode has a bug

Yes, back then if you used the app to pre-heat or cool, it would set it in Auto and leave it in Auto after you got into the car. That wasn't as bad as the UI problems in v9 and they did end up fixing that.

Right. Forgot I was in a Model 3 discussion thread! I use miles/last 30 miles.
  34. mknox

    Dog mode has a bug

The bug is in how v9 handles HVAC itself, as far as I'm concerned. In version 8 and prior, you could select each of Fan, Mode, Recirculate and A/C and individually select which you want in Auto and which you want to control manually. It was brilliant and largely like most other cars. Now it's...

Percentage or Miles/Kilometers : which do you use and why?

Exactly what I do. I compare how far Nav tells me how far I have to go against how far the Energy App tells me I can go. As long as Can Go > Have to Go, I'm good. Yes, that is the number I am referring to. I always use "Rated" number. Conditions are never "ideal" enough for me to use Ideal...
  36. mknox

Percentage or Miles/Kilometers : which do you use and why?

They should show both, but the miles/km should be from the Energy App estimate, not the silly linear scale that they currently use on the battery gauge which does no actual prediction of how far you can really go.

RBC Auto Loans... Are You Really That Clueless?

As has been mentioned, many may have a second ICE car and all RBC is doing here is cross-promoting a deal they have on with PetroCanada right now. On the flip side, I get lots of PetroCan spam telling me to get a RBC card (I refuse to deal with RBC after horrible, horrible experiences in the...

    MCU Yellow Border - Fixed!

Have to admit, hearing some magic tool could fix it seemed odd to me, but glad to hear it is real and works. My 2018 Model X screen was already replaced once and is yellowing again. Not sure why, but my 2013 S lasted 5 years / 100,000 miles with no yellowing issues whatsoever.

Charging interrupted using UMC on 110V at home

I charge using the UMC on a 120 volt outlet quite often at my buddy's lake house. The only issue I've had is that the outside outlet, which is a GFI outlet, failed once and I had to replace it. But no interrupted charging ever in over 6 years of doing this. I suspect a wiring or mechanical...

    Cancelled Maintenance Plan

I am following with interest. I also bought 8 years of maintenance when I purchased my X in March 2018 and have had one "annual" done so far. I was planning on doing #2 then asking for a refund on the balance (i.e. the remaining 6).

    SuperCharger - North Bay, ON

Thanks for posting that. I have said for over 6 years now that long distance travel in the winter cold is completely viable in a Tesla and that you can't compare horrible Wh/km numbers that you get in short winter trips with what you get on longer hauls. On a long trip, the initial consumption...

Alectra just dropped their APP Program

It is possible that something like it may come to ALL Ontario utilities depending on the outcomes of the Alectra pilot. Often utilities are given permission by the Ontario Energy Board to "try out" things like this to see if they would be viable on a broad scale. I know Alectra themselves were...

Yellow bands of death can disable some touchscreen controls

I drove my 2013 Model S for 5 years / 100,000 miles with absolutely no issues with the screen. This was long before "Cabin Overheat Protection" was added, so it saw all kinds of extreme temperatures over the years and no yellowing or any other problems. My 2018 Model X screen yellowed in the...

Dynamic EV Charging is coming – are you in? What do you think?

This can be done easily through the EVSE. In fact, even Tesla HPWCs that are ganged together can do this when two cars plug in to multiple HPWCs daisy-chained on one circuit.

Trailer mode when using bike rack?

I haven't tried with LED lights and agree that might not be enough of a load for the car to "sense" it. In my case, a trailer or carrier (with incandescent lights) makes my light come on yellow, but I have to manually select it to turn it blue for full trailer tow mode. LOL... fair enough!

Trailer mode when using bike rack?

So I just tested mine and it still works as I described earlier. I can select Trailer Mode, the blue icon comes up and I can drive away and it stays on, with no trailer attached. Trailer mode when using bike rack?

Mine does not seem to do this, but it has been a while and perhaps recent firmware has changed the behavior. Mine will (or would) put the icon up in yellow if I plugged in trailer lights or carrier lights. That indicated a light connection. If I had a trailer, I would press the button to change...
