Escort Passport 9500ci Install in Twin Cities

Mach1 did an install of the Escort Passport 9500ci radar detector for me. I didn't want to shell out this kind of money, but I've always driven with a radar detector and didn't want to stop now that I have a super-high accelerating vehicle. Of course, with the Tesla, you pretty much need external sensors if you've got something like the sane-lane transponder (which I do).

They did a really good job. The only thing I don't like is the rear laser thing. But that's not an artifact of the install so much as it is of the product.

That is one thing that I have not decided to hook up yet. I have the wiring to the back of the car so that it could be done but I haven't found a place I like it yet. If you have pictures I wouldn't mind seeing how they decided to hook it up. On the plus side from what I read your much more likely to get hit by LIDAR from the front.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I was expecting for the rear one. To mount it on the top set of holes it would run into the camera, too bad because I think it would look a lot better up there.

Not a big deal, but the rear diffuser could be better positioned by twisting the bracket so that it is parallel to the road instead of angled slightly upwards.

The diffuser can be installed on the upper screws and not interfere with either the camera or hatch button.

Have you seen it done like that?

They tried and it interfered with the hatch button.

The issue I see with the top would be if using the standard brackets and having the detector above the top holes it will be it would need to be modified around the camera. If it is mounted where it is below the holes it covers a decent amount of the top of the plate and in MN's case pretty much the entire state name. I don't know if that is an issues but for some reason I seem to remember that is one of the things that need to be clearly displayed. Also both of these observations were with the Tesla plate frame on the car so without that it might fit better on the top.

I have my rear diffuser attached to the upper bracket but positioned beneath the bracket. I have had no issues with the camera or reaching the rear hatch lever with my hand. It does cover the top of my license plate but the tags are visible as well as the state name. Each state is probably different regarding possible modifications to the licence plate and what is considered legal.
