EvGo in Arlington (Clarendon)

Just noticed the evGo L2/CHAdeMO charger in the parking lot of the Clarendon Walgreens, across the street from Whole Foods. No idea how long it's been there.

Seems like a very strange layout. It takes four parking spots but only has one J1772 plug and one CHAdeMO plug. Plus it has a big canopy of sorts, but doesn't actually provide any weather protection.

Speaking of evGo, in poking around the Fairfax County website for any news related to a potential Supercharger down there, I came across this document related to the EvGo charger out in Dulles.

Interesting reading, which should convince you a) what a PITA it must be to try and put in Superchargers, and b) local government staff has way too much time on their hands.

Note this section:

"In order to better plan for electric vehicle charging stations in the County in the future, the Planning Commission’s Environmental Committee has been holding a series of meetings to review the existing policies of the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance with regard to electric vehicle charging stations. A review of existing policies and consideration of what changes, if any, may be appropriate in the future, is ongoing. On July 12, 2013, staff prepared an Interpretation outlining how electric vehicle charging stations are to be treated under the Zoning Ordinance, listing five (5) general conditions in which such a station may be considered as an accessory use serving other principal uses. Those provisions include no canopies and no signage other than on-site directional signage as permitted by the Zoning Ordinance. A copy of this Interpretation is included as Attachment 9. Staff also recognizes that electric vehicle charging stations are a new and continually changing technology, and that in the future, the Zoning Ordinance may need to be amended to more adequately address the evolving nature of such use."

That document is supposedly an attachment to the Report, but it's not included in the copy posted online.
