Hawaii change concerning taxes and title (letter from Tesla)

Hi Guys, I just got this email this morning and thought I share it. I read through Akikikis post on paying for taxes and reg etc. I'm glad to announce that those days are over! Yea!

Hi Ross,

You may make final payment on your MyTesla account once your final paperwork is posted. You will get an email alerting you when it is available and I am told it should be ready by the end of next week.

Also, there was a change in process this week and Tesla in now working with a titling agency to help customers complete their registration. You will see that taxes and fees have been added to your final amount due. The titling agency will be registering your Model S on your behalf and all you will need to do is sign some paperwork at delivery and few weeks after delivery at their office. No need to go to the DMV!

That is so cool. It was such a pain to get our temporary safety check, pay the excise tax at the State Office, go to DMV for the license then back for the permanent safety check.

Aloha TexasEV, I am going to take an educated guess about this. But I am pretty sure right now this applies just to Hawaii. Hawaii is probably just the next state where Tesla has completed the process. We know that our SC has been working toward this for more than 18 months here. I suspect this is also a goal in every other state where they deliver the car and even in those states where they can't talk sales.

Here's a little background. Dec '14 is the two year anniversary of the first Model S delivery to Hawaii. Tesla got their dealer license about a half year ago give or take a month. That was an obstacle for them in getting the permission to collect the Excise Tax and pay it to the state, perform the state safety inspection/sticker and then register it at the DMV for us.

Many of us found our way through the maze of getting a Tesla registered with assistance of those that had done it before us. The process had us going to many locations and revisiting some even if you knew what to do.

For new owners this is going to make buying a Tesla much easier. We envy them. And we are grateful that Tesla has worked through the red tape in Hawaii and can do this now for new owners. YAY !!!

Im actually wondering if this is just a private company that tesla partnered with locally to make it easier for new buyers. When I was researching Akikikis thread on reg tax ect I looked into a local company that would do it for you for a fee. I cant remember the exact amount but I remember about 100-150. I thought that was pretty reasonable, considering i'd have to take off work to get it done.
And dont evny me too much, you all have been driving Teslas for a few years and I have been in my glorified golf cart Leaf!:biggrin:
