Help: unable to apply for Tesla loan

Hi Everyone

I am new here. I ordered M3 on Oct 25th. Every time When I tried to apply loan through Tesla, after I put in my SSN and all other information in and click "submit", I always got an error message says "Tesla is experiencing technical difficulties, we are unable to submit your application. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I attached a pic of it. I called/emailed Tesla a few times but no one seemed to know what's going on.

Has anyone encountered same issue before?

I am located in LA, CA. I do not have VIN assigned yet. Not sure if it is because of this.

Did you email [email protected]? They're really quick to respond. Usually no more than 10 minutes. My SA foolishly told me to apply for financing back when I ordered on 10/31 and it expired last Sunday but they had US Bank refresh my loan without a credit pull again.
I received the same error when I tried to apply on 11/30. I sent emails to [email protected] and [email protected] but haven't heard back yet. I called the the assistance line yesterday (888)518-3752, 12/02 - they weren't able to help but said they would put in another request and said to wait another 24-48 hours for a response. Still waiting...

Thanks guys for the input.

I managed to get hold of someone from Finance about 2 weeks ago. They suggested me to "log in and log out, and use a different browser". After I told them that did not work, they never responded back. I even went to the delivery center near by me and talked to someone in person. They said they would follow up with Finance, no response. That was last week. I also emailed and called a number times but no one helped me.

At this point, I will just get my own loan. I am just a little paranoid that maybe somehow the order was not processed properly and I won't be getting the car on time lol.

There is nothing to prevent you from applying to a non-Tesla bank or CU. Is there a reason you want to go thru Tesla ?

Looks like your SSN creditials might have an exception thats causing the error when Tesla processes your info. Do a pull on your credit report to see if Tesla did a credit check on your loan app.

Do you have Credit Monitoring? I think we're all ignoring the elephant in the room here...

if you have credit monitoring or other identity theft protection (with a freeze/lock in effect), even a soft-pull won't (shouldn't) go through.

How to Lock Your Credit

Locking your credit prevents lenders and others (with a few exceptions, as we'll discuss below) from accessing your credit report or using it to get a credit score. Checking your credit is typically one of the first steps in processing a loan or credit application, so blocking access to your credit file can stop fraudsters and thieves from opening new accounts or borrowing money in your name—a common consequence of identity theft.

When either a credit lock or credit freeze is in effect, access to your credit file is blocked for purposes of credit checks related to loan and credit applications, but certain entities are still permitted to check your file, including the following:

  • You (you can always view your own credit report)
  • Creditors with whom you have a business relationship at the time the lock or freeze is activated
  • Landlords or rental agencies conducting background checks
  • Phone companies and utilities
  • Debt collection agencies trying to collect payments
  • Child support agencies seeking to set the amount of child support
  • Lenders and credit companies who have prescreened you for credit offers
  • Insurance underwriters acting with your authorization
  • Potential employers you have granted permission
  • Government agencies acting according to court orders or warrants

definitely check around for local credit unions or banks, where you are likely to obtain a better rate than what Tesla offers.

Yea, I followed your suggestion and went to my bank and was able to get a car loan right away. I just finished my order by choosing using self arranged loan.

That was what I thought so too (Although I never remember asking for credit freeze). Anyways, I actually called all three credit agencies listed there and they all said I did not have a credit freeze on my account.

That's very bizarre... good luck with someone getting back to you on the technical glitch side though.

Lol, you are absolutely right. So far the communication from Tesla is spotty at best. That's when I found out about the forum here. So far you guys have been 100 times more helpful. Really appreciate that!!!
Now I just hope this glitch won't affect VIN assignment in the system....

What Model 3 trim are you getting ?

There are some pre-production P3D- stealth performance available right now for $2k more than an AWD. Likely that you will get VIN faster and before end of year than your current order. Waiting time is about 7-14 days.

LR AWD Performance (Stealth TM3) Waiting Room

I ordered the LR AWD. I would love to upgrade to the stealth performance one. How do i do that? Tesla Customer service on my zip code never pick up phone. Should I call a show room? My delivery center?

After trying to to submit my credit application since 11/30 and my Delivery Specialist trying since 12/06, every time receiving the "Tesla is experiencing difficulty" error, the DS has finally got it through. Now I'm waiting for the credit decision and terms...and a VIN!
