My wife and I would like to go downhill bike riding next Friday. Unfortunately, our Model Y suffered a hit and run and is currently in the shop, so we'll need to take our Model 3. However, our 1UP bike rack weighs 45 pounds, and our two bikes together weigh 110 pounds. The Model 3 hitch's vertical load is only rated to 121 pounds.
Do you think using load support straps (Amazon.com) would be safe and would take enough load off the rack to get it below the max limit?
