The Cottage at Winjes Farm, as a newly installed destination charging location, with two Tesla Connectors, up to 16kW.
Available to the public, we have questions and curiosity. Spring has come to the high desert and outdoor time increases with the longer days. Sitting at the edge of the Great Basin, a trip to our location is a planned trip for any traveler, let alone one with specific energy needs. Given that, how far from our location, Winje's Farm, could a Tesla vehicle that uses these charging stations expect to travel and still have enough power to reach Winjes Farm? Or conversely, after a full charge, where might a Tesla vehicle expect to be able to reach. Thank you for your replies, I'm sure there will be more questions as we learn how much we do not known.

You're in a good spot where folks would have a hard time making a round trip from the nearest supercharger, so the new installations will be very useful. A tesla can make it from almost anywhere because the supercharger network exists...

Your metric really needs to be "am I within range of a supercharger", yes you are. Kalamath Falls if going north, or Mt. Shasta if going south. Folks coming from directly east will have a little bit of a hard time, but that's pretty rural anyway.

Good point. We did see the supercharger at Von's in Klamath Falls when we were there this last winter. I will have to keep an eye out for Superchargers in Reno as well, being only a bit further than Klamath Falls from The Cottage at Winjes Farm.

Hi Russell, just adding a bit more information for you. Tesla originally placed superchargers no more than 160 miles apart on major routes starting in about 2012. Now, Tesla is filling in more superchargers in more heavily traveled routes, and also adding to blank areas in places like the Dakotas and in Canada. Most Teslas can get at least 190-200 miles on a full charge, except maybe during freezing conditions which reduces range. The new Model 3 Teslas, which you will be seeing more of, have battery sizes rated at 220 miles to 310 miles, but in real life a bit less than rated. So, thank you for planning ahead and seeing the future in electric vehicles by adding destination chargers at your cottages! I hope you get business from Tesla owners in the future. We are a pretty loyal bunch of folks and will spread the word about your destination chargers!

Thank you for that very interesting information. As a side note we wondered about the winter effects on the Tesla autos, being in a snow area ourselves. Your comment was a start to that understanding.

Our first Tesla visitor to The Cottage At Winjes Farm has successfully used the dual wall connector(s). The five year old Model S hooked up within seconds to the "master" wall connector, while the "slave" sat unused. Sometime in the night the Model S charged from 20% to the requested 90%. The second night, just for the first time use testing, the "Slave" unit will be used. Also worked flawlessly. We discussed how the wall connectors communicate with the vehicle on a 100 amp breaker system set to 80 amps on the "master" (dial set at D) and how both units use the SoC, thus effecting the "slave" ( dial set at F) when both are in use. The Tesla owner left a review on Plug share.

Thanks for offering power to your visitors! One thing to watch out for since these are outdoors is where the charge cords hang and make sure that they don't lay down on the ground and get wet/abused or sit pointing up catching water. The connections can get corroded and cause trouble charging. Something to check out every few months.
 
Thank you for this input. The Cottage at Winjes farm, with its two night stay policy, gives each Tesla drive two opportunities to charge up, once upon arrival, and then again, after exploring our Surprise Valley, and before heading out on the road for the next leg of a journey. Because the chargers are on the Cottage, and thus at our back door, I have the opportunity to observe and learn from each driver, and as you suggest, be sure to keep the chargers in top condition. The Model 3 owner just drove in from Reno last night, a 207 mile trip, with miles to spare. Tesla owners will want to contact Jan Winje ahead at 530 279 2371 to discuss details of their stay.
