    Supercharger - Huntsville, AL

My hopes of charging here on our Christmas visit back home are fading. Looks like another year of hauling it all the way over to Athens. I’m glad they are building this but Huntsville is a tech heavy city, Tesla could sell a LOT of cars here if there was a service center and superchargers for...

    Tesla logos: plastidip v decals

Yes, you need to make sure to get it thick enough so that it peels easily. I put 6 coats on roughly 10 minutes between coats then I let the last coat dry for an hour. Worked great the first time. -Jim

3D Maxpider Model Y Floor Mats

When did you all order from Part Catalog? I've got an order from June 21st but don't have a shipping notice yet. If I didn't make this shipment from China, I may consider looking elsewhere.

    Tesla logos: plastidip v decals

Plasti-Dip is quick and easy. If you don't like it, you peel it off and try again and you can go to lowes for all the stuff and do it today. I plasti-dipped my rear emblems on car, and removed the T on the hood and did it off car. By far, I'd recommend doing it on car and masking off well. -Jim

19” Gemini Wheels - Powder Coating?

Thanks! I'll check that out. They are not compatible, that's why I posted the question. You can install them, but they won't do any good. -Jim

19” Gemini Wheels - Powder Coating?

I got my Gemini rims powder coated. I then installed Wheel Bands in an attempt to keep from getting curb rash. However, due to the lip on the wheels, I don't think the wheel bands will do any good at all. Any suggestions for a rim protector kit that will work with the lip of the gemini wheels? -Jim

    Supercharger - Tysons, VA

In talking with the sales people at Tysons Corner, two different employees told me that this would be a 45 stall installation. I said "45? Really?" They double confirmed. -Jim

Will NagGate turn in to the next AppleGate or will Tesla actually fix the problem

There is no way this would be possible in my AP1 car. I’d suggest taking your car in. Just to be clear, you do know it’s looking for a torque bias right? Are you balancing out the torque of one hand with the other, just exactly perfectly? -Jim

Will NagGate turn in to the next AppleGate or will Tesla actually fix the problem

I used to wait until the nag then slightly turn the wheel. After the last update, I discovered that is just as relaxing and comfortable to lightly hold the wheel. I drove 100 miles on AP today and didn’t get a single nag while very lightly resting my hand on the wheel at 5o’clock. I like it...

just curious...why are so many people installing dash cams?

So you can prove that you weren't at fault in an accident, or you can identify vandals, you can see who unplugged your car... etc.

CR said it hit Tesla's spec of 133 ft on the first try in two different vehicles. Subsequent tests on both vehicles showed significantly worse results. The 152 was the average. Brakes need to work well more than once. The guy who burned his Model 3 brakes out in 1 lap at Laguna Seca may have...

Failed range calculation left me stranded

How fast were you driving when it died? Lithium battery capacity is very difficult to judge when the state of charge is low. The voltage starts to drop off a cliff at the end and the lowest bank of cells determines where the cutoff is. Additionally, the discharge rate of the cells determines...

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

No it's not. There are multiple sensors on the accelerator that are completely independent of autopark. If those sensors don't agree then the accelerator is not "pressed" according to the computer. -Jim

    Utah Model S data release

The car was going too fast. At 45mph and above AP in it's current form can't detect stopped objects. TACC works great when you have flowing traffic, but go from 60mph to a dead stopped object and it won't see it. -Jim

    Dual Motor priority?

How about this: "Tesla's published dates prioritized owners for delivery of AWD models and that has never changed". Is that better for you?
  20. kingjamez

    Dual Motor priority?

Before all the owners got their invite, the "My Tesla" page for the Model 3 reservations always showed AWD for owners before AWD for non-owners. So, yes, we do know. -JIm

Tesla Black Box Data Collection - Hands on Wheel

The hands on wheel sensor is a torque sensor from steering wheel motion. You can have your hand lightly on the wheel and the car won't know it. -Jim

    Model 3P-D 0-60 prediction?

This is the quote from the last earning call from Elon: This sounds to me like the Model 3 is NCA. Despite the rabid assertions of a poster in this thread, we do not know the exact chemistry or performance of the Model 3 2170's yet. -Jim

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I respectfully disagree. Just because you are buying a mid-level luxury car doesn't mean you don't take into account the cost of ownership. I do, and many of my friends do and we have S's and X's. Also don't discount the "I want a Tesla" factor. When I bought my S, I had been shopping for and...

    Model 3P-D 0-60 prediction?

Good points. I would say that the true peak power handling capability of the PMSR motor is still up for debate... lots of unknowns right now. Hopefully by Friday, we'll have our answer. -Jim

    Model 3P-D 0-60 prediction?

I think you could be close. However, the assumption of the similar torque curve is probably off enough to make a meaningful impact. The permanent magnets really change the equations here. Additionally, I don't think that using 370kW as the maximum output power is valid since the "P" model of...

    Model 3P-D 0-60 prediction?

I wrote a long rebuttal to this, but it was quite snippy. So I’ll just say this. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of how chemistry affects the C rate of the cell. This is likely due to the fact that you also have a fundamental misunderstanding of how C works. You possibly don’t...

    Model 3P-D 0-60 prediction?

Who cares about the number of cells? The physical number of cells playes no role in maximum discharge capability. Cathode size can be much larger in physically larger cells allowing for lower IR numbers. You act and state as fact that a single cell has a fixed output no matter it’s size, that...

    Model 3P-D 0-60 prediction?

75kWh is not a "power level", and a 75kWh battery is not a 75kWh battery. kWh is an energy measure and has very little to do with the power output capability of the pack. The Watt is a measure of power, not the Watt hour. Tesla talked about the tradeoff's in the last conference call. It's easy...

    Someone unplugged my car

As a LEAF driver as well, I can firmly say that you are doing it wrong. Don't take the LEAF downtown. Nobody bought a LEAF believing it was a general purpose car. It's a short commute, get around town, 2nd car only. Trying to make the car do things it wasn't designed to do is not the fault of...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Here is where I see profitability coming from in Q3 and Q4. It also explains Elon's short squeeze. Tesla knows that the end of the $7500 federal tax credit will help it sell high-spec cars. So as soon as they get up to 5k/week they will introduce AWD (possibly P) but NOT the base battery. This...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Still weird that Elon was tweeting about the stock price before he was about to buy 33k shares. Perhaps it was an effort to dissuade insider trading accusations in that he tried to pump the stock price before he bought just to look "clean".

That another debate entirely. I agree with the "don't buy an EV if you don't have a place to charge it" argument. If you have a house with parking, there is no need for public L2 infrastructure.

    EMF while Supercharging

That makes sense. You are seeing the high frequency coming off of the AC-DC Boost / Buck converter. It's a switching power supply and while well shielded, can still leak a bit. -Jim
