How is range calculated?

Just finished an epic 2286 round trip. One 500 mile segment, I may have exceeded the speed limit! My 2016 mx 90d was using 495 whm. Stopped overnight and charged to 93%. In the morning milage display said 170 or so range, but navi said I did not have enough charge to get to the next charge point 117 miles away.
Is it using prior driving info to predict future driving needs?

Navigation will consider effects of HVAC usage, elevation changes, expected speeds, etc based on your route.

The projected range is based on energy consumption over the last 30 miles. The rated range is based on 100% ideal conditions used by the EPA test cycle.

Long story short, always use the navigation on long trips and follow the charging stop recommendations as that would be the most accurate prediction.
