slow internet?I just updated the version of software and I am now receiving this seemly endless map file. Its been downloading for 5 hours now and it looks like i'm only half way through the process. Any idea what this map update is all about?
Interesting as i have not seen this for my car. Can you tell us what model you're driving? I will check and see if i have gotten any downloads from my home router logs.
It completed overnight and now my mapfile is NA-2019.20-10487. For reference i have a refreshed 2016 with AP 1.
Tesla could do this much more efficiently - and keep the onboard map databases up-to-date by sending much more frequent updates to all vehicles, based on their current location - such as sending map updates for areas within a 200-250 radius of the current location, and updating only those map segments that have changed. And then when the vehicle started moving or routing outside of this area, Tesla could send updates for the new area (which would be a relatively small amount of data - likely less than several screens of satellite images).
Sending a new map segment would only be needed during the day when the vehicle is making a long distance drive, moving outside of the current map segment - otherwise the incremental map updates would normally be done over WiFi, and because the map segment sizes are so small, Tesla could update all vehicles to current maps in the nearby area - every night...
