Improving Boombox Sound

Is there a way to improve the boombox speaker to get better quality music outside? The other day while washing the car, i had the boombox going but it sounded like crap. I think my phone would sound better. I was thinking of adding a better speaker to at least be able to hear the music better.

you might be able to change it to a different speaker but im not sure about the output from the mcu itself

It's been a long time ago that I messed with small amp circuits. I would think you still maybe able to find a mono amplifier to that will take full output voltage and bump that up a few watts and add a louder speaker. Might be able to use the same speaker. Only thing I'm finding is for line level but I'm sure something could be had.
