Increased lighting, while potentially increasing the perception of safety, does not actually increase safety. Choosing safe sites for charging equipment should be a best practice. Appropriate lighting, for which there are guidelines, should be installed to allow for good visibility. The massive LED flood lights that are pervasive in today’s shopping centers are a waste of energy, a major contributor to light pollution and don’t increase safety proportionate to the increase in light output above recommended levels.
I’ve personally been to plenty of sketchy charging sites - some brightly lit, some appropriately lit and others very dark. A friend of mine got robbed at gunpoint at a very brightly lit supercharger in Kansas.
