Its rained and notice (heard) water in the boot lid?

Sorry old thread!

My boot lid was full of water the other day and luckily recorded this.

You need to turn up volume to hear the water in the boot lid!

I have already taken the car in before Christmas to have this fixed and did not sort the problem. Tesla could not recreate the problem so just realigned the lid

Can't be many places that that much water can get into the boot lid surely? I thought this was a well understood issue caused by water leaking in around the lights and the standard fix was to remove and replace or re-seal the rear light clusters?

Yep I believe that maybe the cause. I have it booked in to rectify the problem in June so hopefully they know this time! As last time they didn't have a clue.

One thing that this causes is the boot interior lights to trip off when you open then boot (water in a connection) so will also mention that.

Was discussing misting inside car at last SC visit and it is clear that there is a common issue but it was not ingress via the lights. Unfortunately I cannot remember what it was as the service chap quickly visually checked in front of us (reason I know it wasn't the lights) fast enough for me not to notice what exact area he was concentrating. But I think it was possibly sealant or metal fold around the boot lid body possibly near the hinge area. Also can't remember if he said we were ok or not but they kept misting up whilst super charging on the list.

Probably not much help to you but based solely on that video when you lift the boot you can see the drips at the back corner increase? It didn’t look like your boot lid was covered in water so I wonder if it’s escaping there?

My car has been back in for a ’fix’ once (realign boot seal). Today:

I have another video too. In all it goes on for about 30 seconds. That’s a lot of water. Time to book another service visit.

Mines in at the moment getting this fixed, it's been In for over 2 weeks now and it's at a body shop where they have taken the rear of the car off :S. Also it seems that the charge port is letting water in so they are replacing that also.

I had it in before Christmas for the same but all they did was realign the boot, but this did not fix it. Hopefully they will fix it this time

Wow.

I’m getting a bit of water in the boot from what I presume is a faulty seal between the rear windscreen and the boot, and I’ve already booked a service appointment for it, but now I’m scared. If that’s what you get after a “seal realignment” then I’m not sure I want to take it in!

If water in the boot, I found water was coming in via the bolts that hold down the hinge to the car body. You can see the bolts inside if you look up inside, and sometimes you could feel water on them if it had been raining.

Ex

Same. You'd think this far into build this simple stuff would be resolved. Reminds me of my Mk 4 Escort, constantly leaking. Looking forward to the other brands catching up so we can go electric with quality build. Polestar 2 and Cupra El-Born look fun.
Catching up? Batteries, FSD, AI? I don’t think there will be real competition in these areas for some years (unless China just steals the tech). Build quality, Tesla need to up their game.

Update: yesterday I found my car is still leaking- lid half full of water again. Sad times :(. With all of the good weather we’ve had it just hasn’t been tested. M3 is going in for the 4th time. A firm SMS to Tesla + complaint with Black Horse. This could get ugly if they don’t fix it this time. I like the car and don’t want to have to hand it back.

SC replaced rear lights today....but they removed the two pea sized grommets that cover the ?drain? holes.

Anyone with a 70 plate M3- can you check if they still come with the two little grommets on the trailing edge of the trunk (open lid to check)?

My concern is without them I have no way of knowing whether the replacement lights fixed the car (other than sellotape for now).

do you mean here on the inside of the boot lid?

...if so my answer is yes (70 plate M3)
