I’m not super knowledgeable about lease takeover yet. Curious if it’s a viable option for some older ones like 2014
Generally, if you lease a vehicle using their standard lease pricing; not where you put more down to attempt to lower the monthly payment. There is a residual amount that you can pay if you choose not to turn in the lease.
In most cases, the dealers will take the lease back and attempt to sell it for that residual amount or more. Most cases, depending on the inventory, they would need to lower the price lower than the residual amount to sell it; more so on the mass produced vehicles.

Non Tesla related but I noticed it. I leased a 335 hybrid and the buyout upon turning it in was around $42k. It was in pristine condition when we turned it in. The dealer ended up listing it for 39k as a certified vehicle; About $3k cheaper. I don't know what it sold for, but I'm sure $39k was the asking price.

For Tesla, I noticed the same. Most of the 2015 used I've found were about $3k+ lower than the residual; and it included the Tesla Warranty. (You get get the residual info on previous posts in 2017, 2018 lease). That was 1 of my gauges on monitoring the prices.

In this situation, I cannot say.. but if OP can provide the residual amount, that could help out future potential buyers on this forum.

Thanks,

Take this example: Not including money factor.

2.5 years left at $1,186/MO = $34,394 ROUNDED UP $35K benefit of the doubt straight line calculation
Buy out of $92,000 - $35,000= $57,000

Currently, you can get a 2016 90d for about $45k-$50k

Not a great example as I don't have the residual amount but we will use simple calculation on this situation. I'll try to find one later to give you more of an apple to apple comparison.
