It's a common practice to leave charge ports open at work when parking next to a used charger. I just tried to do it for the first time and ran into the exact same problem as the OP in that the adapter doesn't get locked in unless there is a charging cord attached to it. Locks in fine when there is a cord attached.
Anyone know how to lock the adapter in without a charging cord attached?
