Current update is...
On May 16th I was updated by Crash Champions Monroe in Spokane, WA that the Tesla parts for the frame rail still are backordered and still show no ETA... so that's fantastic
My second month of a rental was just paid by my insurance through the uninsured motorist property damage (so still not dipping into my rental coverage and still not requiring a co-pay from me). So shitbox has been avoid now until June 10th when I'll likely have to renew the Tesla Hertz rental for a 3rd time. (Maybe I'll go Polestar next time?)
This means insurance has paid out $2,767.04 for rental coverage already! They've paid $1,340.72 in towing fees so far... and the estimate for repair still sits at $29,367.42 (not counting the $4,300 estimate for the reapplication of paint protection film which I'll push really hard on).
That means total so far paid out is $4,107.76 with a total estimate of costs being $37,775.18 (when factoring in current rental, tow, and repair costs).
I spoke to State Farm a couple weeks ago and they have no idea what the amount would be to total it out... they said they let the repair shop figure that out. I requested that information from the repair shop and they just texted back "based on number we are not at a total loss" so they either don't understand the question (What cost for repairs plus scrap value would push the car into total loss territory) or they don't know either... If the scrap value is $15,000 (again, motors and battery is fine, interior is fine, rear is fine) then the total would be almost $53k, I would think that would be a total loss...
BUT, State Farm also said they don't factor in towing fees or car rental fees *at all* in the total loss calculation... so I guess they could pay like $15,000 in rental fees and towing and not have that push the needle at all towards total loss... which seems odd.
