London-Dartford Waiting Room

Thought I would start a waiting room for us anxious London owners waiting to get our hands on our M3. Feel free to share your specs, ordering experience, waiting frustrations and delivery excitement. I'll start.

Only reserved 22/03/19. Ordered 01/05/19. Invoice number 79. LR AWD, Deep Blue Metallic Paint, 19" Sports Wheels, All-black Premium Interior, FSD.

I've not changed my order nor been told that I won't be receiving it. I'm trading in my old car, pretty happy with my trade-in value (slightly better than WBAC without the hassle). I've had no communication whatsoever from Tesla bar the one random text message. No VIN yet.

Couple of hundred RHD M3s due in Zeebrugge this week and then 1,000 more next week. Would be interesting to see how they get distributed to the U.K. (Tilbury?). Unlike MS and MX, I understand M3 delivered fully assembled.

The wait as they say is killing me.

I ordered on the 2nd of May. SR+ Midnight Silver Aeros no FSD paying cash and no part ex. I was contacted by a delivery specialist two weeks ago to say I will be one of the very early receivers of the M3 and they wanted to know if I would be on holiday within the first two weeks of July. The following day my final invoice was on my accounts manage page.

Obviously there is no way of understanding the delivery process but it seems the more standard the spec and simpler the financing the easier it is for them to match cars to orders before the ships dock anywhere. As soon as white interior with black paint and FSD for example is chosen they need to wait to find out if they have those exact specs onboard and cannot do so until they arrive. Hence the delay.

Its just a guess but I believe everyone will get the delivery call and the final invoice a week before they are due to arrive in Dartford once they are taken off the ship and the exact specs are known and matched to customer orders. For the quick wins they can be confident they can fulfil straight forward specs and simple financing without really knowing whats on the ships. For the more custom specs they need to wait to see what arrives.

I suspect I am London Heathrow delivery centre, but anyway, might be useful info.

Lee3, good to know that some people are getting delivery confirmation, be interesting to know when you reserved and ordered.

We reserved Jan 6th 2017, and ordered early on May 1st 2019, our Invoice number is low 90's. I have been told by Tesla support for what its worth (not much), that invoice number is meaningless. However I was also told that reservation holder would be given priority over those who just pitched up and ordered when the configurator went live, again take that with a pinch of salt.

No trade in for us we sold one vehicle privately and no finance just straight cash.

So far we are stuck on "We are drafting up your contract and will contact you when you can make your final payment" stage, there is no VIN number hidden in our source code etc, so we literally have no clue.

Our spec is;
  • Model 3 Long Range All-Wheel Drive
  • Deep Blue Metallic Paint
  • 18’’ Aero Wheels
  • All Black Premium Interior
  • Autopilot
  • Full Self-Driving Capability
  • Tow Hitch (update to include this made on 13th May when it came available, I happened to be logging in)

Bog standard SR+ ordered on May 6th.

If there is only 300 on the ship arriving 12th and 1000 on the ship arriving 19th I doubt I'll see mine till September. There are no ships going to EU docked at SF right now.

Tesla Carriers

Hoping that there is more than 1000 on the Grand Mark. If not, it's possible mine isn't even on the assembly line yet. Takes 3 weeks for shipping...

Tesla told me this morning no ships will dock anywhere other than Zebruggee as they will typically contain LHD models for other European markets. So annoyingly they will travel right through the English channel only to come back on carriers and or smaller ships.

The number of VINs so far registered (around 1300 RHD) does not necessarily mean only 1300 RHD cars have been made or loaded on ships. It's very possible that more than 1300 UK cars are already on one of the two ships on the way to Zeebrugge.

Good on you for selling privately instead of taking the easy trade-in option! :)

I’m relieved to know I’m not the only one intending to pay cash. At a 6.95% APR over five years (for our New Zealand market), it just doesn’t seem a good idea to finance, having to be certain of a 6.95% annual return over five years for the cash not spent on the car, and also to wonder what happens if I want to trade up/switch cars after three years. Anyway, thank you for helping me feel more comfortable with my decision :)

Fremont makes 7000 cars a week - or so they say. All are going overseas, probably since last week in September. Zeebrugge is a major destination overseas. Only 2 ships. There’s got to be more.

Just catching up with this thread. Glad my reply helped :)

My car eventually arrived 2 weeks ago and its is everything I hoped for. Few minor niggles with a service to address in November! and also homelink was missing and I ordered before the cutoff, but apart from that very happy, its a great car.

Car = 10
Customer service = 7 ie okay and some great people working at Tesla, but they need more support in terms of process's etc

So, I finally collect my M3. Scheduled delivery slot 3:00 p.m. I was trading in so arrived in my car but almost no parking on site. Arrived about 15 minutes early as I didn't want to delay group presentation if I had paperwork. Turns out there is very little. 8 other collections at the same time. At least 3 of us had ordered May 1 with 19" wheels. About 3:30 called in for group presentation around demo car. Indoor garage with 2 cars. DA covers the basic 20 mins max., then back to reception to hand out keys. 5 key cards handed out - I wasn't one of them. Remaining four cars not yet ready. Unbelievable. Considering my request to collect earlier in the day (due to childcare) was met with an outright flat no, this was unacceptable. Cars are presented outdoors. As mentioned before no space inside. So I joined the others receiving their cars outside to mingle. DA apologised but not his fault. Just shocking organisation by Tesla. I was given my keys an hour later.

Mentioned missing frunk mat. Was told none in stock. Either pop around at some future date of get in touch with Parts. Also mentioned 5,000 free Supercharging miles. DA pops into office to sort that out. In the meantime, I give the car a once over but it is late, dark and I need to get home for my kids. Generally in good condition (from what I could tell). Defect on windscreen edge what appears to be delamination noted by DA. Stain on rear middle seat dealt with by valet.

If you are looking for any hand-holding, you are in for a surprise. Only 2 DA on the forecourt. They often have to pop back into the office to sort stuff out on their computers. Fortunately, I've had six months to figure out my car.
