    Windows venting themselves

I've had it happen twice on two different Model 3s but in both cases I couldn't be sure one of us hadn't accidentally hit the 'vent' button in the app. And therein lies the problem!

    Improving brake "feel"

@Ej1749 Where have you heard that Tesla will supply HP2000s for the M3P? Can you show me an invoice for them from Tesla? As for track/road pads being suitable for road use, it depends very much on what pad material you choose. If you read a lot of U.S.-based information the preference often...

    Crack in a CrossClimate 2

It's too close to the sidewall for a start. Nobody would tackle that unless they wanted to make a quick buck on the side and not care about the consequences.

    Crack in a CrossClimate 2

If you can see a glint of (unrusted) metal cord it's highly unlikely to be a defect from new. There is so much crap lying around on the roads these days. I've seen stanley knife blades which have become embedded in tyres, even a piece of rebar which went through the tyre and the wheel rim...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Adaptive, not active. The new M3P won't have active or air suspension. Looks like there will be a switchable 'sport' mode which will probably change the valves in the dampers somehow.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Tesla have said that all the bushes have been changed to reduce NVH. Presumably to a different rubber compound. That's going to mean all the suspension arms and knuckles will have different part numbers at least. There was also a mention that the front suspenion geometry had been revised, but I...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Not particularly compelling. Lots of guesses and estimates because no official figures have been made available since the war started.

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

There's just no way 42 psi could be considered under-inflated. There's another explanation but without some more info it's impossible to say what.
  9. Dangerous Fish

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Where's the evidence to support that?
  10. Dangerous Fish

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

You said "on the edges" not "on the outside". When did you last have an alignment check? Show us a photo of the tyre treads.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/shooting-blast-reported-concert-hall-near-moscow-agencies-2024-03-22/ I wonder who these "terrorists" are and what their motive was? Who do you think Putin will blame?

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

The fault mainly lies with the press quoting the driver's fairy tales like it's fact and then headlining it with a clickbaity title. It's not a "Rogue Jaguar" it's a "Stupid Jaguar Owner". Also, what went wrong in JLR so they called the 'E'lectric car i-Pace and the 'I'CE car E-Pace?

Rejecting my brand new model 3 Highland

If it is a form of 'flat spotting' or some other form of tyre damage that is certainly one way you'll get vibration even if the wheels are in balance. As I said earlier, swapping to a known good set would prove it.
  14. Dangerous Fish

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

I believe the description of the bomb included 'integrated wings', but what that will mean in terms of range is anyone's guess. I can't see them using anything other than a Tu-22 to deliver them though. There's no way now they've lost all those A-50s they're going anywhere near the front line...
  15. Dangerous Fish

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

How much of Ukraine will be left by November if there's going to be constant pussy-footing until then? The amount of death and destruction between now and then is just horrible to imagine, especially if Russia ramps up it's bomb and missile production which it seems sanctions are powerless to...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

One of these - Tu-22M3, which can carry two at a time. If they're fitted with a glide kit the range could be 50-60 miles from the drop zone maybe? Meanwhile, Washington has been asking Ukraine not to attack Russian refineries because it may push up oil prices and affect the election. But...

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

    It's an idea... 😁
  18. Dangerous Fish

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

Oh dear... I suggest you check it yourself or maybe post a photo of the full width of one of your tyres so we can see the state of them. I'm assuming you also haven't compared the car's TPMS numbers against an accurate gauge? You need to do that as well.
  19. Dangerous Fish

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

You're measuring tread depth at the edges using these grooves each side (as opposed to the sipes on the very edges)?
  20. Dangerous Fish

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

Something's not right if you think 42psi cold is under inflated. What tyres are they?
  21. Dangerous Fish

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

If you're at 42 now that's an alignment issue not pressures.

    [UK] 2024.8.x

There is. On early cars there are sensors on the suspension which alter the lights depending on how the car is loaded. On later cars there's an internal tilt sensor doing the same job. The problem all along has been after the lights are calibrated, over time for some reason which has never been...

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Easy enough to determine. If it does it when the car's stationary it's not the pads/discs squeaking!
  25. Dangerous Fish

Big hole in rear engine cover and oil leaking

The drive unit has oil and an oil filter. Nowhere near as much as an ICE but it's there.

Certainly doesn't look like they're ventilated in that photo.
  27. Dangerous Fish

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Lots of variables to do with this subject but something that hasn't helped historically is the these cars don't get any proper brake bedding done before delivery and if they are then under-used the corrosion problem gets worse and worse as time goes on. Best general advice I can give not having...
  28. Dangerous Fish

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Unusual in hold mode for them to squeak. Keep them in good condition and they will last a long, long time! Quite a few owners ignore them and then complain when they have to replace all the discs and pads because of corrosion and neglect. ;)
  29. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Not discussed as much as motors, brakes and suspension but a best pic I've seen of the seats so far and they look a lot more supportive. It's the one thing that's really difficult to sort on the original M3P.
  30. Dangerous Fish

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Are you using the 'Hold' setting or 'Creep'? Photos of your brake discs would help so we can see the condition of them, but yes it's probably lack of use causing it. You've got to use the brakes hard every now and then, more so when the weather's like it's been here in the UK recently.
  31. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Yeah, it's just a tad misleading for Koni to use that word. The same as Tein have a product called "EDFC ACTIVE" which is just motorized adjusters. They won't be Koni branded as it's just the FSD tech. being used within Tesla-branded units.
  32. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The M3P isn't out yet, so Lars was referring to what's on sale right now, that's all. The M3P won't have any form of active suspension because it costs too much and a properly sorted conventional damper will work just fine.
  33. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Why should the bias be shifted rearwards? Remember, the rear motor is doing the regen and effectively giving more rear braking. Very few drivers will be dialling down the regen to a very low %. I rarely go lower than 70% and if I didn't have a BBK I'd be keeping it 100%. If anything, the added...
  34. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Rear calipers are a bit puny but they don't really need upgrading and there are options available for larger/better rear discs and pads. Most of the braking is done up front. Once you put a decent front BBK on the M3P you struggle to overheat the stock rears, in fact bedding new rear pads can...
  35. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The whole active suspension thing is a red herring which has come about because of the frequency selective damping (FSD) the Highland shocks are using, based on tech. from Koni, who call their product "Special ACTIVE". Seems some have picked up on that word and believe there's going to be some...
  36. Dangerous Fish

Big hole in rear engine cover and oil leaking

Can't tell anything from that photo but if it really is oil, something could have punctured the oil filter as that's the most vulnerable part on the motors.
  37. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

So few Model 3 owners take their car on track that uprated brakes would be a complete waste of money and raise the price of the car for everyone else. I wish it wasn't so, but that's where we are right now and those of us who want/need better brakes just spend a bit more on aftermarket parts and...

No, you don't have to have the border left around the edges. Sorry, but a better tinting company would have done the job right.

2020 Model 3 Performance Road Noise: New Tires? Hankook Ion Evo AS?

All seasons and winters are always going to be at the noisier end of the spectrum. And some people aren't bothered by noises others find really annoying. It's subjective, which is why it's not easy to give recommendations.

How many people are having connectivity issues?

As you know Tesla engineering are aware of the issues but as can be seen from this thread, there isn't an obvious cause. The more data they have the quicker it will be fixed so the correct course of action for the moment is for everyone affected to raise a service request including timestamp(s)...

2020 Model 3 Performance Road Noise: New Tires? Hankook Ion Evo AS?

Choice of tyres makes a big difference. Which Michelins are they? Bubble wrap will make no difference whatsoever, regardless of what someone on You Tube might say 😁 Reducing road noise is relatively low frequency sound and that requires thick, heavy, soundproofing materials not Jiffy Bags! On...

Furious back-pedalling by the interviewer, who was sympathetic to whatever the iPace driver said all through the interview (as said, he's obviously anti-EV). Run-away I-PACE, really?

What's the betting he wanted to get rid of it because of various problems and bad service. Tried the runaway story before Christmas but didn't get enough media attention so had another go and no gets the clicks he wanted. Would anyone here honestly get back in a car which truly did: 1...

Rejecting my brand new model 3 Highland

Yes, I get that but vibrations can still be caused by the wheels/tyres themselves even if they are balanced, which is why the only certain way to eliminate them as the cause is to swap with a known good set. Some other causes are uneven wear (unlikely with new tyres), tyre/wheel runout, wheel...
