You could be correct, good spot!

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Easy enough to determine. If it does it when the car's stationary it's not the pads/discs squeaking!

Big hole in rear engine cover and oil leaking

The drive unit has oil and an oil filter. Nowhere near as much as an ICE but it's there.

Certainly doesn't look like they're ventilated in that photo.
  5. Dangerous Fish

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Lots of variables to do with this subject but something that hasn't helped historically is the these cars don't get any proper brake bedding done before delivery and if they are then under-used the corrosion problem gets worse and worse as time goes on. Best general advice I can give not having...
  6. Dangerous Fish

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Unusual in hold mode for them to squeak. Keep them in good condition and they will last a long, long time! Quite a few owners ignore them and then complain when they have to replace all the discs and pads because of corrosion and neglect. ;)
  7. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Not discussed as much as motors, brakes and suspension but a best pic I've seen of the seats so far and they look a lot more supportive. It's the one thing that's really difficult to sort on the original M3P.
  8. Dangerous Fish

    Squeaky Brakes - Normal?

Are you using the 'Hold' setting or 'Creep'? Photos of your brake discs would help so we can see the condition of them, but yes it's probably lack of use causing it. You've got to use the brakes hard every now and then, more so when the weather's like it's been here in the UK recently.

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Yeah, it's just a tad misleading for Koni to use that word. The same as Tein have a product called "EDFC ACTIVE" which is just motorized adjusters. They won't be Koni branded as it's just the FSD tech. being used within Tesla-branded units.
  10. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The M3P isn't out yet, so Lars was referring to what's on sale right now, that's all. The M3P won't have any form of active suspension because it costs too much and a properly sorted conventional damper will work just fine.
  11. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Why should the bias be shifted rearwards? Remember, the rear motor is doing the regen and effectively giving more rear braking. Very few drivers will be dialling down the regen to a very low %. I rarely go lower than 70% and if I didn't have a BBK I'd be keeping it 100%. If anything, the added...
  12. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Rear calipers are a bit puny but they don't really need upgrading and there are options available for larger/better rear discs and pads. Most of the braking is done up front. Once you put a decent front BBK on the M3P you struggle to overheat the stock rears, in fact bedding new rear pads can...
  13. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The whole active suspension thing is a red herring which has come about because of the frequency selective damping (FSD) the Highland shocks are using, based on tech. from Koni, who call their product "Special ACTIVE". Seems some have picked up on that word and believe there's going to be some...
  14. Dangerous Fish

Big hole in rear engine cover and oil leaking

Can't tell anything from that photo but if it really is oil, something could have punctured the oil filter as that's the most vulnerable part on the motors.
  15. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

So few Model 3 owners take their car on track that uprated brakes would be a complete waste of money and raise the price of the car for everyone else. I wish it wasn't so, but that's where we are right now and those of us who want/need better brakes just spend a bit more on aftermarket parts and...

    Model 3 Window tints acceptable?

No, you don't have to have the border left around the edges. Sorry, but a better tinting company would have done the job right.

2020 Model 3 Performance Road Noise: New Tires? Hankook Ion Evo AS?

All seasons and winters are always going to be at the noisier end of the spectrum. And some people aren't bothered by noises others find really annoying. It's subjective, which is why it's not easy to give recommendations.

How many people are having connectivity issues?

As you know Tesla engineering are aware of the issues but as can be seen from this thread, there isn't an obvious cause. The more data they have the quicker it will be fixed so the correct course of action for the moment is for everyone affected to raise a service request including timestamp(s)...

2020 Model 3 Performance Road Noise: New Tires? Hankook Ion Evo AS?

Choice of tyres makes a big difference. Which Michelins are they? Bubble wrap will make no difference whatsoever, regardless of what someone on You Tube might say 😁 Reducing road noise is relatively low frequency sound and that requires thick, heavy, soundproofing materials not Jiffy Bags! On...

Furious back-pedalling by the interviewer, who was sympathetic to whatever the iPace driver said all through the interview (as said, he's obviously anti-EV). Rejecting my brand new model 3 Highland

That's fine for those who have determined it's not the wheels and tyres. I'm just pointing out there will be cases where even after balancing it still can be the wheels/tyres.

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

What's the betting he wanted to get rid of it because of various problems and bad service. Tried the runaway story before Christmas but didn't get enough media attention so had another go and no gets the clicks he wanted. Would anyone here honestly get back in a car which truly did: 1...
  28. Dangerous Fish

Rejecting my brand new model 3 Highland

Yes, I get that but vibrations can still be caused by the wheels/tyres themselves even if they are balanced, which is why the only certain way to eliminate them as the cause is to swap with a known good set. Some other causes are uneven wear (unlikely with new tyres), tyre/wheel runout, wheel...

    Condensation in tail lights verdict??

Why waste $408 when you can fix it yourself? Look at the video further up this thread. It isn't a difficult DIY fix, I've done it on both out Model 3s and been condensation free for the last 3 years!
  30. Dangerous Fish

Rejecting my brand new model 3 Highland

Will be interesting to see how it pans out. The problem with an issue like this is that there will be plenty of situations where the wheels just need rebalancing but it'll be blamed on the car itself, making it look like a much more widespread fault.
  31. Dangerous Fish

Rejecting my brand new model 3 Highland

The only way to narrow a problem like this down quickly is to swap wheels with another car. That's going to prove whether it's a balance/seating issue with the wheels or something on the car itself. If it's not the wheels and Tesla can't say what's causing it then I'd reject the car too.

Tesery "Forged Zero G style" wheels seem inexpensive. Not forged?

Documentation means nothing, sadly. A few years ago my company purchased a $20,000 piece of lab equipment from a Chinese company which has a pretty good reputation and has been trading a long time and selling it's equipment all over the world. It came with all the QC/QA testing documents as...

Found this on YT last night. The channel is thinly disguised propaganda really, but there are some useful insights. The comments on this one are amusing bearing in mind the A-50's recent history. In terms of how many operational A-50s are left, opinion varies but it seems to be around 4...

Researchers find a clever way to hack into and steal your Tesla

It's not really hacking into your Tesla though is it? It's a form of identity theft. The car itself or the app won't use the guest WiFi network unless the owner tells it to by entering their credentials. If they are fooled into selecting the wrong network, it's a mistake on their part but the...

2021 Model 3 Performance - Warped Brake Discs

To be fair though the rear brakes on a Tesla (esp. Model 3 with regen on the rear motor) do so little work you have a job bedding pads on them and to get them up to anything like the temperature required to cause etching requires a LOT of heavy braking. All the Model 3's I've seen with...

2021 Model 3 Performance - Warped Brake Discs

Yes, exactly that and you are absolutely right to not come to a complete stop afer the brakes have been used very hard, if you can help it. Most have learned the hard way now, but on trackdays it was very common to find drivers 'warping' their discs after doing 10 laps in their road car, coming...

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

Many modern ABS systems on all types of car will have issues like that in specific circumstances. If the wheels momentarily lose grip the system can get confused and the driver will suddenly find the brakes aren't working in an expected way. There's a very good example and explanation of this...

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

I'm agreeing with you even if it didn't come across like that. My main point is that we often read about cases where something has gone wrong with the car and it leads to something unexpected happening which the driver, for whatever reason, can't cope with and then calls the car "undriveable"...

2021 Model 3 Performance - Warped Brake Discs

Have you got photos of the discs you can post here? You don't know how the previous owner treated them, but apart from that what a lot of people call "warped discs" are actually discs which have built up high spots on the surface due to corrosion or the driver braking hard repeatedly and then...

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

Brakes will always overcome powertrain if pressed hard enough, even in the Toyota example. In the same way when power steering or brake boost is lost on a Tesla some won't be able to steer or brake because they don't have the strength. Doesn't mean the steering or brakes have completely failed...
  47. Dangerous Fish

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

Well, you won't have regen on a Model 3 so braking will have a lesser effect in N in that case, but it will vary from car to car.

No you have to order through the app and the VIN needs to be registered with it.
  50. Dangerous Fish

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

Putting an EV in N usually feels like it's not slowing down at all because there's so little drivetrain friction. That would confuse people even more I reckon and that's if they even had the presence of mind to try it in the first place, which I doubt most would.
