LR AWD Waiting Room

Ordered on 10/21: LR AWD, 19" wheels, blue ext./black int. at the Century City, Los Angeles showroom
The sales assistant noted the 6-10 week wait, and since trade-in and financing offers are only good for 30 days, she suggested I hold off on those sections until at least a VIN was assigned.

On Sunday, Nov. 3rd, I attended an "owner's symposium" at the Marina Del Rey delivery center. They asserted that delivery is expected from mid- to late-December, and that since there would be a mad end-of-year rush, the symposium was set up so they could answer as many of our questions as possible in advance, and thereby hopefully keep the actual delivery moving along quickly. Echoing the sales assistant, they suggested in the room that we set up reminders in our calendars to complete the trade-in/financing sections online on Dec. 1st.

I still don't have a VIN or a delivery date. (I've checked the source code.) But twice since the symposium, I've received texts (generic, not from a specific person) asserting that if I were to complete the trade-in/financing sections now, I would get "priority vehicle matching for faster delivery." The latest text also claimed they now offer 60-day financing approval "for qualified customers," though I don't see any matching language in that section of my account.

So my question is: does anyone think I should go ahead and complete those sections now, and maybe get my car sooner; or are these just automated messages that don't actually mean anything in the real world?

Just to keep things interesting, I'm traveling in late December, right in the middle of the supposed delivery period, so a delivery date before departure would be very helpful. Otherwise I'm looking at delivery on Dec. 31, which leaves no room for anything to go wrong.

Thanks for all input.
I personally think those messages are worthless and if they were serious the website would say 60 days instead of 30 days for the credit checks.

That about sums it up. If someone is able to unload their trade before delivery - its one less task to deal eith. I kinda thought that the closer you could get to “cash” the better it would be come delivery time.

I would highly suggest that you complete all sections that possibly can be completed. I have done so and am stuck on the insurance part. My agent will not issue anything without a VIN number, but I can get that doc immediately when I get a VIN number. If you have multiple policies with one insurer (home, earthquake, flood, other cars, etc), you can get generous multiple line discounts.

I have a similar problem with December. Most people have something going on. It does leave no room for something to go wrong, and things going wrong are part of life.

From yours and other California posts, I am seeing all of California as standing room only in the last two weeks. The best of luck to people. Trying times ahead ... though we are talking a month from now.

You don’t need to wait. California has a grace period to get insurance. All you need is proof that you are currently insured. I just uploaded a photo of my insurance card from State Farm. I see the uploaded image on my order page.

Which insurance card? I have the old card from a vehicle I've sold - that is supposedly the policy that will be used for the Tesla (currently it is one hold). I have another car and can use that too.

The problem is that my agent told me if I wait too long with a policy on "hold", the policy will be cancelled and I will just get a new one when I get a VIN number. I've got to use this insurer (not only for the low rate), but for the fact that my liability umbrella attaches to all the policies.

All insurance companies in California are required to provide a “proof of insurance” card for their clients. It’s a small card that should easily fit in your wallet or glove box. It’s what you will need to present to law-enforcement if you ever get pulled over. State Farm includes this card when they bill for the insurance. They also provide a facsimile with their iPhone app.

Yes, but I got rid of my car weeks ago (stupid me). My agent will cancel that policy soon and re-issue a new one when I have a VIN number for her. So I can't get proof of insurance until I have a VIN number.

If I give Tesla an old policy number (that will likely be cancelled long before I have a car), it will be the wrong policy number and show invalid if they check it out.

Yeah but they also could melt the epoxy on my garage floor and mess it all up. If i can't hover into my garage after a hard days work then whats the point?

Confirmed that the hover thrusters don't melt epoxy flooring. I've tested a few times now. As long as the LED puddle lights aren't aimed directly at the point of contact, maximum melting temperatures aren't met.

Picked up my LR AWD on 11/11 and unfortunately, Tesla's build quality is still trash. My car has a slightly misaligned rear bumper where the seam below the rear tail lights is and my driver side head light has a massive gap between the hood and the edge of the light. And just to confirm with the 2020 changes, no frunk hooks, no ambient light in the door pockets. I dont know if road noise is less because I never had extensive time with an old build to compare.

This is what concerns me. Big rush to meet the demand at the end of the quarter and quality probably suffers. At this point, I'd almost prefer to have them slow down and wait longer for my car and have it built right. Obviously in a perfect world, they'd simply learn how to build in mass quantities and still have good quality like some of the other major manufactures.

Argg. I feel like buying a Tesla is a form of gambling and I'm usually not the high stakes type. WTF. If Elon can get SpaceX to land rocket boosters on a small pad in less than ten years, he should have solved these quality issues by now. The fact that Tesla has not is because they don't care about it, not because they are a newer company. Look at Hyundai Kia, they were other crap 20 years ago, now there fit and finish seems to be better than the Japanese even. Wish there weren't so many trade-offs with buying a Tesla. Great tech and amazing driving experience + terrible fit and finish and abhorrent customer care. Early adopters tend to prioritize the former, but for volumes to really increase, they need to care just as much or even more about the latter.

What bothered me the most was when I complained about my issues to the delivery specialist. She told me after speaking to her manager, their tolerance level is 4cm!! Are you kidding me?!! 4cm is 1.5 inches! Ultimately I accepted the car since there wasn't any paint issues, and I'll test my luck with the service center to fix these alignment issues. Also I forgot to mention that the gap between the hood and bumper is larger on the driver side vs the passenger side -_-

It sucks, and I would be angry too. But to say "Tesla has terrible QC" or "They don't care" is a stretch. No doubt this originated when Tesla was building their line and the earlier Model 3s had serious issues. But lately those have dissipated (but -not- completely). Also keep in mind that issues are often reported, but flawless deliveries? Not so much.

I don't believe that Tesla is alone with QC issues. Go to any other car's forum, FB group etc. The complaints are loud and many, for ALL makes. Nobody is perfect.

And lest we forget: Tesla's Model 3 ranked 'most satisfying' car, more than Porsche or Corvette.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be upset, @pookgai. I hope you get it resolved. In the meantime, enjoy your new ride!
