I get why folks don't want to pay in advance for something that they can't inspect/see/touch.

But what are the downsides here? How many folks have refused delivery because of paint defects, etc. Ask yourselves, what would it take for -me- to refuse delivery, especially since doing so might result in a few months delay and losing the tax credit?

By all means, do a thorough inspection and make a list. I've yet to read a post for someone who took delivery after specifying the defects and found out later Tesla refused to make good on them.

I could not agree more.

I agree in principle but remember you live close to a service facility some of us live hundreds of miles from the nearest one and so getting major fixes requires a lot of planning and expense.

I'm new to the forum so greetings all. I ordered mine on the 31st and it still says 5-8 weeks.

White LR AWD B/W Interior
18" Aero Wheels

I'm seeing a lot of new 2020 ones popping up on tezz.la(at least 15 today). I'm tempted to pick one of those up instead of waiting.

I don't think you can unless it's within 500 miles of the "Anteater capital :D". But you can always drive to that location.

The daily batch of cars has hit tezz.la. The 2020's are all LR/AWs in eastern time zone, as expected. But like previous days, they mostly (all?) have sport wheels and white interior.

At first I thought it was due to the $2500 premium being too much for the would-be owner and was refused.

More logically: These premiums are money makers for Tesla like all "add ons" from ICE dealers, which is why dealerships aggressively promote them (e.g. extended warranty). Tesla of course can't do the hard press. Instead, I suspect they produce and ship enough cars to fill the orders, but also produce several more extras with premium features. These will show up as inventory, and their history shows that they always get snapped up by buyers not willing to wait. Thus, more profit.

Wouldn’t we expect a lot more cars in inventory if Tesla is shipping in excess of 1,000 of them per day? I see from here 8 cars on tezz.la, and almost half are 2019’s. I would expect easily a 10% rate of decline on orders -i.e. - over 100 cars per day added to inventory.

The spreadsheet is not showing “lots” of anything being delivered.

I posted this elsewhere, but I’ll post it again here. Tesla Is Starving USA Market In Favor Of EU & East Asia | CleanTechnica

I really am missing the point of this article (must be senile!), but the title is following what we have been seeing? The article is only a week old and the only thing I really understand is that supposedly this quarter, deliveries are taking a different pattern than in previous quarters. Everyone here has been saying that Tesla is doing the same thing as it always does each quarter. Conflicting information again.

Are we really sure that Tesla is sending all cars now to N. America? That Fremont factory can spit out lots of cars in a week. We are a fractional minority, but we still aren’t seeing lots of activity. Where are all the cars? What if Tesla is still producing for Europe/Asia and the US? A few cars a day are not a massive influx of cars. Something is missing here? Maybe?

What if the vehicles that are showing on tezz.la are truly ONLY inventory/rejected vehicles and the mass vehicles that they are producing are being matched to orders which wouldn't put them in inventory to sell?

We are seeing a LOT of VIN received entries and the numbers are accelerating. But those are only VIN numbers, and it can take days, maybe weeks to ship them and get them delivered. Expect many more entries in the next week.

Also, the spreadsheet is a minuscule sampling of orders, useful only for spotting trends. A very small percentage read forums or social media. Even fewer are aware of this forum. Fewer still are aware of the spreadsheet, and only a tiny minuscule of orders are entered and updated on the spreadsheet. Once the car is delivered, the incentive to post delivery information declines.

A far better (but by no means perfect) are the inventory cars on tezz.la, and these have taken off in the past few days. And they are matching the expectation of a predominant trim with westward moving locations.

Well...this is why I will always be broke. I just jumped on the black 2019 performance with 20” wheels and FSD on Tezz.la. My impatience just caused me to spend 14k more on features I wasn’t really in the market for.

cheers to driving faster and to not driving at all (FSD) I guess. I’ll update on how this plays out as my financing and everything was already done on previous order of LR AWD.

also i dont think i can force myself to spend an extra 14k .. so i guess i'm safe.

congrats!! You only live once brother!

Updates for anyone who is interested:

1) FSD was easily removable from price/vehicle making the price bump only 7k vs 14k for the available performance.

2) Although the car appeared in Portland on Tezz.la it was in fact physically still in Vancouver. It was going to take 10-14 days to be ready for pick up.

3) I asked the SA in Portland to match me with the vehicle so I didn’t need to start a new finance application. He said that’s unfortunately not possible but he would check with finance for other options.

4) While waiting for his response on the finance side he texts me and says “got a pearl white Stealth performance with black interior physically here right now that hasn’t even been entered into inventory if you want to save some money and don’t mind white”.

5) I decided that the amount of driving I do in downtown LA on terrible streets and my commute made the 20” wheels a poor financial decision and that the white was growing on me and asked to be paired with the white one physically there.

6) Tomorrow should be paired with vehicle and finalize financing (new application). Ideally I’ll one way to Portland on Saturday and drive down over the next 2 days enjoying the road trip and working from the road.

7) I’ll believe all this is true and stop updates of my Tesla Impatient Soap Opera once I accept delivery of what I hope to be a 2019 stealth pearl while model 3 (what actually happened here hahah)

Congrats! Logically thought out and well executed. I think you have a match!

I still don't get how you can buy a car in another state, but I'll suspend logic on that one!!!! You live in LA and can buy in Portland? Just enjoy!!!!

I was wondering that too. Theoretically anyone could fly to any state to buy a car and drive it home. But California now requires temporary plates until permanent ones arrive. And I’m pretty sure all states require registration at point of sale.

Does California have a grace period for cars purchased out of state? Maybe Tesla can generate car registrations for any state.

Oct 3rd - Placed Order
Oct 28th - Vin showed up in source code
Oct 29th - Delivery specialist notified me of vin and provided MVPA forms
Nov 2nd - I finalized my loan
Nov 4th - My bank wired money to Tesla
Nov 5th - Tesla notifies me of carrier direct delivery scheduled for Nov. 6th
Nov 6th - Delivery! (hopefully)

When I ordered, delivery was estimated as less than 2 weeks and this never changed on my Manage page. I will (hopefully) be finally getting my car just shy of 5 weeks after ordering! Wish me luck on a smooth delivery!
How did the delivery go?
