LR AWD Waiting Room

do you usually get a email from the customer facing side (not the order specialist that's been emailing me since the 10th) soon before getting a vin? I just got a email reaching out. still no vin in my account so was wondering if that would indicate its soon?

Hey gang, how long is the current wait if you order a Model 3 now until delivery? Website says between 6 and 9 weeks, but would like to know from people here. My wife would like a gray long range with white interior, so about $52K. Only problem is I wanted to surprise her on her birthday in 27 days, but if it's this Tesla, no way. No unsold inventory anywhere. Oh well. Thx.

By the way, I almost ordered it online to see the process, and I wasn't asked where I'd like it delivered. I live in El Paso, where there's no dealer. My daughter lives in Austin, where we test drove it. But Phoenix/Scottsdale is closer (400 vs 600 miles). Not sure where to get it delivered. Any suggestions? When do you have to choose that? Oh, and the website doesn't tell you Tesla charges you $1,200 for destination, but supposedly other than TTL, no more surprises.

Yes there are all the normal fees, doc fee, order fee, etc etc. This is my first car where I won't be paying the gas guzzler tax. You would choose your delivery location after the order is placed. I would pick a location based on supercharger network along your route.

After tons of reading and internal debate, I modified my MSM SR+ order placed on 1/15 to a LR AWD today. Now I’m one of you!

Last update was 4-8 weeks via text last weekend. I hope I didn’t completely reset my position in line by changing the order; but an extra few weeks is worth getting the car I want.

MSM LR AWD with 18” Aeros and black interior. Based in Los Angeles. The wait is killer.

lol i did the same exact thing. i agonized over the decision because i wasn’t trying to spend 50k on a car but ultimately i think we will be happy with our decision

I just felt like I would have regretted the SR+, knowing that I could have got more range, performance, the upgraded sound system etc for what amounts to ~$100 a month over 5 years. I regretted not getting a better trim in my Subaru and didn't want to make the same mistake again.

I also live in an apartment complex without EV chargers, so might be trickle charging or relying completely on Supercharging, depending on if I can work something out with the building.

Same thing though... really didn't set out to buy a $50k car (don't even need a new car) - but if I'm going to splurge on something I'm passionate about and drive it for the next 5-10 years, I might as well go all out. I also think the LR battery will up resale value when other EVs are getting 400+ standard over the next few years.

Miles of range is pretty linear with price. LR AWD is ~20% more expensive than SR+ (dont forget higher tax on that extra 20%), and LR AWD has ~20% more range than SR+. So there isnt any "deal" on getting longer range. What does make it a deal though is the other stuff you get, fog lights, heated back seats, better sound, faster acceleration (I guess, but its more of a nice to have, I dont see this being used constantly since you are kind of shooting yourself in the foot by lowering your range by doing that kind of acceleration), dual motors (nice, and you can feel it, but keep in mind you will spend a lot more on charging over the car's lifetime as the efficiency is lower of AWD (miles per kwh) by ~20%, so that means for every $1000 you spend charging, you would have spent $800 on SR+.

Same here. I bought a car once that was a slightly lower trim and the entire time I had the car I wished I had gotten the better model. Never again.

Interesting discussion between RWD and AWD, but supposedly you can only get an LR in AWD now, according to the salesman we talked to. Is that correct or not? It'd be nice to get all the LR goodies (stereo, premium interior, 75Kw battery pack, etc) in a lighter, quicker, and more efficient car, especially if it's cheaper too. But didn't see that option. Hopefully something we missed :). Thx.

SR/SR+ is the only RWD version now. LR and Performance are AWD only. Pretty sure the current LR AWD is still faster and has a the same range as the 2018 LR RWD, but I'm not positive.

No but I saw some posts saying that it should come back this "spring", i have no basis to think these statements are true, nor do I have basis to believe they are false.

LR RWD is ~10% more efficient than AWD, which puts it ~10% less efficient than SR+. The difference is most likely due to weight (battery). 0 to 60 is 5s.

One thing to keep in mind that you get in LR version over SR+ is the charging speed. 240 32A vs 240 48A (30 miles vs 44 miles per hour), but I suppose its something that doesnt matter to most as 240/32A is level 2 charging that is most commonly available, smaller battery means it doesnt have to charge as fast to get topped off, also most charge overnight or while 8 hours at work or whatever, so time is not a huge deal. But on superchargers (V3) there is a difference of 170Kwh vs 250Kwh as well. That may be a bigger deal if you are road tripping.

My Model 3 LR AWD delivery day was yesterday. OMG, I really could not be any more thrilled with this car. My pickup was exactly 34 days from reservation to driving it off the lot at the Tesla delivery center in Orlando. My car had 4 miles on it when I picked it up and came with software version 10.1 (2019.35.105.). As soon as I got home, it found my WiFi and started the download to 2020.4.1. The paint quality is quite good and overall the panel gaps and fit and finish were above what I was prepared for. I have what I think is a slight misalignment of the trunk biased away from the driver’s side (closest to the charger port) but nothing that triggered any concern for me. For me, the wait is finally over...if i can even call it a wait. The sales adviser told me to expect a middle of March delivery when I placed my order and my order screen was advising 4 to 7 weeks at the time. I found the ordering process to be painless. I found managing my own order and taking care of my own data and document uploads refreshing when compared to the traditional car buying process. I found my communication from Tesla to be better than I was prepared for from all the reading I had done. Overall, a great experience. I hope the same for all of you still waiting.

Just got my text to schedule delivery this morning... "Your Model 3 is in transit and ready to be scheduled for delivery!". Ordered Jan 16.

What is your VIN? Mine is showing 636xxx - thought I heard somewhere that new 2020 deliveries would be above 650xxx but I guess not.

Congratulations on your upcoming car.

Mine is a 636XXX also. My paperwork clearly identifies it as a 2020.
