Model 3 Heatpump Noise?

Just picked up my new 2021 model 3. I've come from a 2019 model which didn't have a heat pump.

I find the A/C quite noisy in the 2021 model, a burring noise, almost sounds like the low hum of an engine!

Has anyone come from a pre heat pump model and noticed the noise? If not I should probably book a service appointment.

Normal. Mine is loud enough to vibrate the steering wheel and sounds like an idling car when it's pre-heating the car in the morning or when using a Supercharger.

Thanks. Coming from a pre heat pump model its pretty loud and you can sometimes feel a vibration in the footwell.

Yeah I thought the axle on the car was grinding when I first move the car in the morning but it is the heat pump kicking in - it is also quite loud when I preheat whilst still plugged in

The noise isn't awful, just unexpected coming from the 2019. I've only done 20 miles as the weather was awful here yesterday. I'll report back on efficiency soon.

Yes! I came from a 2020 SR+ to a 2021 LR and I've noticed the heatpump whirrrr. It does seem to vary depending on how cold it is outside and differences out to in and how much work it has to do. I'm not concerned knowing roughly how it works.

Bet it would cost a bomb to retrofit a heatpump to my Q3 2020 Fremont build LR.
And, much worse, with the new replacement frunk basin, I'd lose my "curry" hooks

I still don't have enough drive data yet to confirm but I'd say so far I'm seeing ~20% increase. My work commute @ 3 degrees would usually be around 320 Wh/m. Today was 267 Wh/m. That may well change as more data comes in though.

aftermarket curry hooks are available ;-). however a retrofit would be impossible, not just due to the likely high cost of parts but it's unlikely Tesla would activate it

Do a check. Get in the car from cold and turn your aircon off. Does the heat pump still make a noise coming through the dash?

Yes. Still a noise there, just not as prominent.

No, there are curry hooks for the heat pump version!

Apparently some of the heat pump cars have this and some don’t. There’s a big thread in the Y forums about it. People don’t think it’s right. Mines the same.

Interesting. Didn't seem to be there when I got into the car on the way home. It was there this morning after preconditioning. Maybe its the battery heater still going?

I get a periodic click from the right hand side of the dashboard now the weather is cooler. Sounds a bit like a relay, presumably heat pump related. Has anyone else heard this?
