Model Y tow bar electrics not working

Last time I looked for the Model 3 according to the 13-pin pinout in the manual only the lights and associate ground wires are connected. There is no 'ignition' or 'battery' 12v power on the plug. I presume the same holds true for the Model Y tow plug.

I have done the same - change from GO to IO and the in home display was showing the correct rate for peak and off-peak albeit a little bit later than the "on the half hour" (at 00:30 the car would start charging but the IHD showed the price at peak rate per hour for a good few minutes) Now that...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Thanks all. I checked the App again (it started quickly and correctly this time) and finally this time, in 'devices', it shows "we've mapped tonight's smart charge". I have 84% in the battery now and want 95% (for a trip) tomorrow morning by 10am. I've been given a 06:00 to 06:30 time slot...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I turned IO off because, according to Teslafi, my Tesla was not going to sleep even though it was unplugged. I think IO was pinging the car to check if it was plugged in. Meanwhile, Teslafi claimed the car was "idling" all the time though there was minimal power usage. I though Octopus were...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I joined Octopus IO yesterday and successfully got a test charge but as I didn't need any charge I unplugged my (Tesla) wall charger and the car wasn't going to sleep so 'disconnected' the car from IO. Used enough juice today to warrant a top up charge so at various times today I tried to use...

How likely is keyless theft 2023

I've never enabled my phone as a car key. It's Bluetooth linked for communications but nothing more. I bought a Fob just before collecting the car and have it on my house key ring. I believe the Fob "goes to sleep" when left still so it would be dead to any relay attack after a few minutes? The...

    [UK] 2023.20.x

Just tried a 2-button reset. The download arrow was orange but after resetting it changed to green and, starting slowly, it restarted the download. Reached 50% download and is now stopped. I think it usually stops at 50% for a while to "think" before continuing. Fingers crossed it finishes this...

    [UK] 2023.20.x

My M3LR has been trying to download 2023.20.4.1 for over a week. Teslafi reports that the car has been pretty much idling the whole time with some very short sleeps. Lost 10% battery while it's playing silly wotsits. This is happening more often with me - long time trying to download an update...

Slowing down the charge st a supercharger

As stated you cannot control the supercharger charging rate other than possibly not allowing the battery to precondition first (cold battery = slower charge). The only amps you can change is for AC charging and possibly more typically would be to prevent socket/cable burnout when using the...

    2023.6.x

I read somewhere that the "warming up" message is related to fan speed control. While it is warming up from cold the fan speed is reduced so it's not blowing cold air around. Once it warms up the fan speed increases and presumably the message disappears. If it is true it makes sense.

UK Model Y Seatbelt rubbing neck

I have a similar problem in my M3LR and tried to solve it with a seatbelt cover - a wrap-around sleeve fastened with a velcro strip. It kind-of worked but in use always tended to slide along the belt a bit and exposing bare seatbelt at the neck again. Biggest annoyance with the cover was, whilst...

    Frozen windscreen washers

There was a worldwide "drought" of windscreens in the early part of this year and a bird smashed into my screen in January fortunately not puncturing it. I got my windscreen replaced by Tesla Winchester in mid-May this year after a 4-month wait for Autoglass basically to waste my time and...

    [UK] 2022.40

I did try using my phone hotspot with the phone left in the car on Thursday but the data rate only increased to 60kB/sec so went back to my house wifi since I didn't want to leave my phone in the car all day. Now it's at 85% battery SOC and is charging and there's no sign of the software...

    [UK] 2022.40

My car has been trying to download 2022.40.4.2 for the past two days and has been keeping it awake most of the time. It was floating round the 5% mark for most of yesterday and as of now has only reached 58%. When I last checked in the car it was downloading at an unreasonably leisurely 50kB/s...

Real World Model 3 UK Experience

For info the Model 3 has a maximum charge rate of 11kW on three-phase mains and 7-8kW on single-phase mains. The three charging modules are internal to the car and rated at 16A (3-4kW) each. Two modules are used when charging from a single-phase supply and all three modules used on the...

    Help!

One other possibility might be the replacement battery itself is incompatible ... for real! Aparently there is a new "childproof coating" applied to the likes of Duracell coin batteries intended to make them taste horrible to children so they won't be tempted to swallow them. Apple AirTags have...

On Wednesday I charged my car to 100% for the first time in ages for a trip to Preston from Southampton. Regen braking was next to useless (with a too-full battery) until I got to the motorway but was still poor. Wasn't paying much attention to the coloured symbols on the screen except there was...

First Long Drive - autopilot problems

On my trip yesterday from Southampton to London using the M3 motorway in rainy darkening condition I noticed the left "fender camera" (as Tesla calls it) seemed to getting more road spray on it than the one on the right. Autopilot was happy to help me to overtake but refused to automate the...

How to extend Mobile connector for family visit

One extra component you might find useful in conjunction with a toughleads extension (or any other make) would be a slim in-line cable coupler - small enough to allow the extension lead to be passed through a letterbox. Solving a problem where a 13A plug or waterproof socket clearly can't be...

    [UK] 2022.36

I'm on 36.5 after a very protracted download - it took 12 hours over an admittedly dodgy wifi and broadband (Sky playing up!) and needing several 2-button resets to resolve the "download waiting for wifi" messages I got on the App and TeslaFi. First dark wet driving for a while tonight some rain...

    Key Fob or not ?

I use a fob because I was used to using one with my Volvo that I traded in for a Model 3. Because I have a house key bunch it was handy to add the fob to that - I fitted the fob into a rubber "sock" with the buttons marked out on it. At £140 a pop they're not cheap but way cheaper than other...

    [UK] 2022.36

I had 36.5 "waiting for wifi" around midnight though I didn't find out about it until lunchtime today (after checking TeslaFi). I had to get into the car, check the screen - orange down arrow showing, and do a two-button reset before the download arrow changed to green. It's taking a looong time...

    Key fob availability?

Umm, the Fob works exactly the same way... For normal entry the car unlocks as you get close and you can open any door then drive away (PIN permitting) Car locks, mirrors fold and blinkers flash as you walk away. All with the Fob in your pocket untouched. In addition it has a "boot button" -...

    Key fob availability?

I don't recall knowing about the Fob sleeping when I got the Faraday box and pouch right at the start of my Tesla ownership. I've got the hang of dropping the Fob and keys in the box at home and the pouch is in my "carry-all" bag that always goes with me. So I get "double protection" when the...

Mine's been sleeping soundly since its charge session this morning (60% - 90% ending 03:35). Still can go several days without waking. I avoid looking at the Tesla App and monitor with Teslafi. One thing I have noticed since the 36.2 update is Teslafi occasionally reporting car is offline for...

    New hazard light update

It sounds an interesting idea - well the double flashing rate part at least. The remote warning part needs too much manufacturers coordination and will have limited, if no, retrofitting to older cars. If nothing else it might be safer for all hazard flashers to run at double flash speed...

    Key fob availability?

After 2 years and 1 month I got an onscreen warning message that my Fob battery was low - needless to say I couldn't find the spare CR2032 battery that came with the Fob's gift box but did have another spare. I think the old battery was down to 2.9 volts. I normally keep the Fob in one of those...

3 months unplugged & unused - minimal battery loss!

I find TeslaFi ideal for passively keeping an eye on the car especially when not using it for a while. If there have been no wake-up events recorded then the car stays asleep for several weeks easily. If TeslaFi reports "software downloading" or "software ready to install" you can use the Tesla...

    Boot latch button broken

The "apparent weight" of the boot lid is probably entirely down to the (remaining) power of the two fitted gas struts. I replaced my boot lid gas struts early on with "Chinese special" self-opening gas struts - well they certainly started the lift and made the lid much lighter to open but not...

    M3 Frunk

I use my frunk regularly for shopping trips and for holiday clothing using my capacious custom-designed (Montrose) frunk bag. From new I replaced the gas struts with stronger self-opening ones so a touch of the onscreen 'button' or two pushes on the FOB's 'bonnet' and the frunk lid opens fully...

Do new Tesla cars come with a Charging cable ? (not talking about the mobile connector)

Destination AC chargepoints at hotels etc are usually fitted with tethered type-2 cables so your AC cable stays in the car Public AC chargepoints in shopping car parks rarely if ever have tethered cables so you need your own AC cable for the socket. Up to you which home chargepoint type you go...

    2022.20

Update on my 2022.20.8 download is that it restarted itself a few hours later and a "software install" prompt was waiting for me when I woke up. Kick-started the install and it completed no bother. Not looked to see what's changed yet. I'm still curious about this "waiting for WiFi" message...

    Insurance UK

I wonder if Churchill's "it's gone up due to a higher risk to insure this vehicle model" reasoning is because of this years shenanigans with their "pet glazier" Autoglass and their failure to supply glass resulting in paying out higher claims for Tesla supplied and fitted windscreens? I'll find...

Cracked Windscreen - Long delay to fix - options?

I've been in that exact situation - glass busted extensively mid-January waited for Autoglass to change their weekly "sorry no glass" message up to mid May then decided enough was enough and got Tesla to replace. Prior to Tesla's repair Churchill were still insisting on £200 - £75 excess. In my...

My next (3rd) Churchill insurance premium will be due early September. The first two were £450 each. 2022.20

I guess my earlier "prodding" must have stirred it's brain because 30 minutes after the last message I've been prompted to finally install 2022.20.5. I was getting worried ... or should I save the worry for what the update payload is going to give me? Ho humm.

    2022.20

Do we trust Tesla with our cars/data??!!

I had a different experience of SC P2D - after 4 months of waiting for Autoglass to replace my windscreen I resorted to asking Tesla Winchester to replace it instead. requested service on Friday 20th May and chose Tuesday 24th May at 2pm for an appointment. This update started downloading then decided there was no WiFi and changed to "connect to WiFi to download"?
