    UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

5 people a *day* die on the roads in the UK at the moment. The screw-ups I've seen from FSD beta videos range from a bit of scraped paint, to a potential write-off, to a potential head-on with serious injuries. But I think it's pretty unlikely someone would die. It's very wary around...

    [UK] 2024.8.x

Quite impressed. They’re playing it safe with the blanking so could go even finer on the precision. Interestingly I was cursing two cars behind me with dazzling headlights and they were both Model 3s. Hope mine isn’t doing the same. Autopilot much less panicky too. It’s definitely seeing...

On the motorway quite often the headlights of trucks are behind the central barrier (and not visible to the camera), but because the cab is higher up the driver gets dazzled.

Can anyone local spare me 10 mins to solve a charging problem

It's for Myenergi (or the company that supplied) to prove that it doesn't have a fault, not for you to do the otherwise. Ask them to confirm in writing that they're refusing to honour your statutory rights. Having said that, I've found that my own Model 3 can be a bit picky about non-Tesla...

I wonder, if you were walking down a pavement with your child, would rather have absolutely zero vision due to eleventy billion lumens of misaligned Tesla headlights in your eyes, or that car dropping to dipped beam? Staying on full beam suggests to the pedestrians that you haven’t seen them at...

    M3H supplied cable 3 phase / 22kW?

Max AC charging in the Model 3 is 11kW, so that might be your answer.

    UK FSD Discussion

Used to be like this, now it's all emergent behaviour. Unfortunately given the driving standards of the typical Tesla driver I encounter these days, I think the behaviour might be interesting in the UK.

You can work out range from UWB signals (it's how AirTags work), so if Tesla want to keep the "must be sat on roof of car for summon to work" restriction, it would arguably be easier.
  13. F

    [UK] 2024.8.x

It was "Smart" Summon but you needed to be within touching distance of the driver's door for it to work (I assume within Bluetooth key range). Which also meant that the camera saw you as a pedestrian and stopped the car from moving.

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

    How... convenient.
  15. F

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

Possibly because someone at Tesla realises that the fidelity to achieve Summon (smart or basic) and self parking is impossible with the current hardware implementation.

    Uk enhanced autopilot changed??

I have EAP. It has exactly two practical uses: 1. Being able to do a motorway journey without a non-stop bing-bong bong-bing bing-bong (repeat until crazy) as you change lanes. 2. Being able to put the car in a space slightly too small (although you basically have to be standing on top of the...

Driving to Europe with car on finance?

It’s a very unusual restriction (mine is leased and has no such rule) and unreasonably limiting. Consequently I think you could perhaps argue that you should have been notified before signing the contract. Do you have legal cover on your home insurance that you could tap for advice? Hiding...

If you were stopped, why is the position of the white lines changing between photos? Don’t forget the buildings mysteriously moving along while you’re claiming to be stationary, and the magical drain cover that appears, and then disappears.

Always empty when I've driven past. Nice cafe / shop. No destination charging in York? There's a load of brand new Gridserve chargers at Scotch Corner if you don't feel up to fighting over the 120kW Superchargers at the hotel.

    Battery Preheat - Down side

I would like to see a degree of intelligence built into the system. It always pre-conditions most of the way down the M1 only to arrive at Newport Pagnell to fight over half of 120kW.

    [UK] 2023.44

And they never will. The cameras physically can't see a water drop directly in front of them because of, y'know, physics, and so have to look to other cues. This might be a neural network to look for where droplets are sliding over the lens as the edges will introduce very specific distortions...

Whats your favourite and least favourite supercharger and why?

As others have said, Hilton T5. But also the Heathrow Renaissance, which has the same policy. Leave a negative Google review, it tends to focus the mind of Marriott corporate head office. Given that many Tesla drivers have reasonable disposable income and are also petty, petulant, and childish...

How to remove my pod point tethered charger from Tesla charge port? (Without using the screen in the car)

    Matrix headlights - finally???

If you ever take the chance to peer through the headlight lens you can see the actual LED elements, which are tiny and about 1mm x 1mm. I assume this is why they appear to be point sources from a distance because I have bigger torches than this.

    Phantom braking

Left lane on a smart motorway with no hard shoulder, perchance? The logic for speed control sometimes gets quite upset here as it thinks you're leaving the motorway. On a quiet drive it's easier to just stick in lane 2 and move over if you see someone approaching from behind. Legally dubious...

My buddy is really trying to buy a Model 3

Has anyone ever got through to Tesla using the phone numbers on the Superchargers or via the SOS button in the car? I think I’ve tried a few times to report a dodgy charger or damaged cable and given up after 30 minutes on hold. I assume the same would happen if you were in an accident and it...

Not sure if it's a scale thing, but how on earth are you supposed to access the middle bank of Ionity chargers in the photo shown above? Hope the Tesla ones aren't another "open to all" site, it's going to be carnage when you have 40p/kWh on one side and £1/kWh 30 feet away.

    Matrix headlights - finally???

If the camera can see the light pattern projected by the headlights, it can self-calibrate and only a coarse level sensor reading is required.
  35. F

    Matrix headlights - finally???

You don't need an MOT station, you need a wall and a tape measure. The weird beam pattern that the lights change to (the L and mirror version) are so you can calibrate them yourselves. Tweaking up and down and left and right without the guide will always result in a sub-optimal outcome...

For what it’s worth, spurious demands and bullying from solicitors in an attempt to discourage a claim is always worth a complaint to their regulatory body.

    UK FSD Discussion

This delay is why the existing lane change is awful. I would love to see the people that insisted on this delay take a drive where they have to wait three seconds after flicking the indicator on before making any lane change or manoeuvre. Of course, if they don’t finish within another 3 seconds...

    Autopilot behaviour in strong wind

In my experience, apart from the sound of the wind you can't tell that it's there. The only problem is that if other cars move around in their lane Autopilot tends to crap its pants and stamps on the brakes, but in general the lane-keeping is excellent.

Sexy Buttons resume autopilot function - Brilliant !!

Also bollocks. The UNECE regulations specify minimum times for the indicators to run and before the car can start moving. More likely you didn’t have the option and just accidentally drifted into the next lane.

    Is TuneIn down?

I just get “Loading Error” when I try to play any station. No data connectivity problems elsewhere (ie Apple Music works). Discovering just how bad the quality is on DAB at the moment.

UNECE regulations prevent them making it any faster. Quite keen on this as it means I can spec my next one without EAP.

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

I appreciate that I might be missing something here, but the only place I need to open the charge port door in darkness is at home. I just used some double-sized tape to stick a small waterproof keyring torch to the handle on the charge plug.

Wiki Restricted UK Supercharger sites - parking restrictions / registering / pay to park etc

Vast majority of traffic at this site is Mercedes people carriers which block a minimum of two spaces (and occasionally 3 depending on how badly they’re parked). Wiki Restricted UK Supercharger sites - parking restrictions / registering / pay to park etc

Yep, whoever signed the contract at Tesla made a major screw-up here. The first mistake was trusting Marriott and the second was allowing every minicab driver in London to block the site. They would push their way to the front of the line at reception in order to get the ticket validated and I...
