While driving my Model Y tonight for the first time I noticed that when I left off the gas (go?) pedal and even though I'm not stepping on the brake the rear brake lights turn on? I tried switching the regen settings but I can see the third brake light reflection coming on even with both settings. I didn't see any options in the menus for this? I don't recall this happening on our Model 3.

Regardless of which pedals you are pressing, if the vehicle is slowing down the car turns the brake lights on.

Yep, all Tesla's do this, it's a vital safety feature since the car can slow substantially when using regenerative braking, regardless of whether you're pressing the brake pedal.
Regenerative braking is real braking. So the drivers behind you deserve an indication of this braking from your car.

It has to be a certain rate of deceleration before the brake light is applied, though. I can remember learning the exact amount of feathering on the accelerator to slow down without the brake light coming on.
