Refreshed 2021/2022 Model X Owners Thread

I spoke with my Tesla Service Advisor today and he claims that about a month (probably as part of the v11 software?) the remaining range displayed on the instrument cluster is no longer the simple EPA rated range, but dynamically adjusts based on ambient temperature, and recent...

Testing The Limits of Winter Driving in a Model X

Indeed, I would love a scientific answer. Both my M3 and MY are performance, so my assumption was that Tesla had simply tuned them to be a bit more sporty, what with track mode, and drifting and all that, but that doesn't really hold up if the LR MY exhibits the same behavior. My wife's 2018...

Testing The Limits of Winter Driving in a Model X

FWIW, Having driven the Model X, Model Y, and Model 3 extensively in snow, my experience is that the X is by far the best of the three, and in my opinion the best snow vehicle I've driven, including numerous Subarus, Audi (A4, A3, Allroad, and SQ5), and BMW X5. Model X was the first Tesla I...

Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

The car does lower on the highway, I think it's around 45 or 50 mph, but if you're in "standard" height, and punch it, you will easily pass 60mph before the car has any time to lower. For me the shudder would only occur under very hard acceleration usually around 45 mph, but that was in an early...

Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

We've got a little club here. I'm also in Oregon, ordered Jan 27th, got the call to switch to 6 seater on October 18th... fingers crossed they come through before the end of the year. FWIW I did talk to the delivery center here in Portland today, and they confirmed they've already delivered...

    Tesla Model X T-Sportline 20" TSS Winter Nokian - $2400

Set of 4 T-Sportline TSS 20" gloss black rims with Nokian Hakkepelita R3 SUV snow tires, perfect condition, no blemishes or curb rash. Only used for 3 months last winter, estimate they have about 2000 miles on them. Selling because I got a Model Y and so sadly can't use them (different bolt...

Grand Teton/Yellowstone accessibility in Model 3

I was there last fall and didn't have any trouble... There's free public charging, as well as a supercharger in Jackson. I did not go to any trails that were off rough roads, but range wasn't a problem.

Winter tires for the 20” Induction Wheels?

This guide is quite helpful to get OEM wheel specs: The Tesla Model Y Wheel and Tire Guide The induction wheels are a square setup (all 4 are the same width), so that makes it much easier. You can get my favorite, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV winter tires in 255/40R20 which will fit the...

Model Y vs Model X: interior and comfort

The wheels and tires your vehicle is riding on will have a pretty big impact on this, and a significant amount will also come down to personal preference, so you should definitely go test drive one. I have owned X, 3, and Y, and driven several Model S as well. I personally prefer the Model 3 and...

Is MY ride so harsh in the back seat that Its batter to wait for the air suspension

I guess it depends on what you're used to, and what you consider harsh. I prefer a stiffer, sportier ride, so I have opted for the sport package and large rims and low profile tires on BMW X5, Audi SQ5, Tesla Model X, Tesla Model 3, and now Model Y. In my opinion the ride in the Y (both front...

Rattle from rear center seat, another video now too

I sat in the back and had my son drive and I am almost positive that it's simply the two rear seats rubbing together. Definitely not something to be cured with oil! :) I think they will need to make the rear seat backs fit together a bit tighter.

Rattle from rear center seat, another video now too

I have found the seats rubbing together was the primary noise for me... If I have the smaller split in the upright position, and the larger seat reclined then it's about 95% better. I haven't taken it into the service center yet, can't stand the idea of being without it long enough for them to...

First impressions: Y vs Macan S

I'd also be very curious to see an actual decibal noise test in a Macan (or other similar ICE). I have read several people saying that they think the Model Y has a lot more road noise, however I wonder how much of that is simply because in an ICE some of the road noise is lost in the white noise...

Intermittent loud screeching coming from right front wheel

Could also be a pebble stuck in your brakes. Try backing up and maybe turning back and forth a little while backing up to see if that dislodges it.

A drive that dreams are made of...

Wasn't feasible to bring our Tesla over from the US, but my wife and I had a great time a couple years ago doing a road trip that started with the "Romantic Road" in Germany. We started in Frankfurt, and drove South to Füssen with several stops along the way, then stayed in Halstadt Austria...

    Secure cargo?

The only cars that have a “secure storage area” I guess would be sedans with seats that don’t fold flat? I’ve never owned such a vehicle. The majority of vehicles on the road don’t have a secure storage area by this definition, and neither do most dwellings... unless you plan to carry a safe...

    Problems with rear hatch

I don't have that issue, however there are 4 adjustable stops on the hatch that you can use to improve alignment... They are round and can be screwed in and out just by turning them with your hand. Sounds like one or more of yours may be too far out and causing too much resistance for the latch...

    Excessive Wh/mi at highway speeds

I have done many long road trips, coast to coast USA, all over the Western US, and have driven about 150k miles now in the last 4 years in Tesla Model X, 3, and now Y. A Better Route Planner is a very helpful tool for planning, but I have found that the onboard car trip planner is reliable to...

    Model Y Camera Calibration

No, that does not sound right to me. I have had two Model X's, our family has 3 Model 3's, and I just got a Model Y, and all of them only calibrated once immediately after picking up the vehicle, and never again... Might need to talk Tesla Service.

    Side Cameras for Parking...

Definitely wish there was a better visualization for avoiding curbs. I think the side fender cameras that point backward would work well for this.

    Aftermarket TPMS

From what I hear from TSportline, the model Y is using a new TMPS system, so it would not be compatible with Model 3 TMPS, and presumably the parts are not available yet from Tesla, which is why you cannot currently get aftermarket wheels and tires with TMPS for Model Y. Seems we have to either...

    Excited and confused

Yes, the old corded Mobile Connector from the X would work on the Y, however the Y comes with its own newer Mobile Connector, and I would advise getting the appropriate NEMA adapter for that and using it. If you're selling the X, the mobile connector should be kept with the vehicle.

    Excited and confused

All Tesla’s come with a mobile charger that you generally keep in the car. Are you talking about the home wall charger you can buy from Tesla and install at home? Is your charger permanently installed? If so, then it will definitely work with any Tesla. This is the wall charger: Wall Connector...

    Excited and confused

I was under the impression you have a NEMA 14-50 outlet, and you’re using the mobile charger that came with the Model X along with the 14-50 adapter to charge. Each Tesla comes with a mobile charging cable so that you can charger your car at a variety of places. If you still have the X and it’s...

    Steering Feel Model Y

Interesting. How much did you drive it before returning it? I am also curious what year and model of Porsche(s) you’re comparing it to. I have a performance Model 3 as well as Performance Model Y, and previously had a Performance Model X. I have had Subaru sports cars, Audi, and BMW. In my...

    Excited and confused

That will work fine. The Y comes with a mobile charger. However, Tesla sadly no longer includes the 14-50 plug, they only include the regular 15amp wall outlet one. The newer mobile charger is different than the one that came with the 2016 X, so you will need that adapter. You can find a whole...

Model Y brake light turns on when letting off GO (gas) pedal?

Yep, all Tesla's do this, it's a vital safety feature since the car can slow substantially when using regenerative braking, regardless of whether you're pressing the brake pedal.

My new Model Y's range SUCKS

Check out this thread on the topic: Trip Range and Consumption 2020 Model Y Seems most folks, myself included are seeing between 290 and 350 wh/m usage. The car seems as good or better than advertised as far as efficiency. It's quite phenomenal actually. We have a performance Model 3 as well...

Model Y - back seat's small rattle noise

Obviously only a temporary fix, but you could stick something under the headrest, like a tennis ball or something else soft(ish) to keep it from going all the way down. I'll be curious to see how Tesla can solve this though, as I expect if the seats were tight enough together to prevent any...

Model Y - back seat's small rattle noise

YES! I have/had this issue as well and it was driving me batty! I found that it was center headrest rubbing against the right rear seat. Try folding the smaller, right side seat down and see if it goes away. I ended up just lifting the center head rest about an inch or so and that stops it.

    Another Autosteer Question

Also must remember that it does not [yet] officially support using autosteer on city streets, it's only intended for highways at present, so any failures when being used on anything other than a divided major highway is technically not a bug.

    MYP and AWD

I’ve put 700 miles on my Performance Model Y (with the larger 21” wheels) so far and it’s averaging just a bit worse than our AWD M3, and better than our performance Model 3, which is freaking amazing. It’s early days, but so far my car is performing extremely well, with excellent ride and...

Sudden Slowing and Cruise Control Speed Change

I am not coming up with a good explanation based on your description, however I definitely see this regularly when using navigate with autopilot when approaching an exit or turn, it will slow the car and show the cruise speed setting reduce and then after the maneuver it will go back up.

Trip Range and Consumption 2020 Model Y

Ok guys, back on topic... Yesterday I drove my PUP Model Y with the stock 21" performance "Uberturbine" wheels on a 166 mile round trip with 2000 feet of elevation gain, approximately 50% of the drive was in rain, temperature ranged between 40F and 50F. My son drove with me in his performance...

Tire & Wheel Swap In Model Y PUP, Any issues with going square?

Yes, the tire profile or "height", e.g. the amount of rubber between the rim and the road, listed in tires sizes, such as 265/45R20 for example, is an aspect ratio, not a specific measurement. So the same aspect ratio number, and wheel size in different widths can result in different sidewall...

Tire & Wheel Swap In Model Y PUP, Any issues with going square?

I could be wrong, but I'm 99% sure the staggered wheel setup on the Model Y is the same as the performance 3, X, and S which use *WIDER* wheels and tires in the rear, but the circumference is absolutely the same. So there would be no change in the height or need to change the suspension. What...

Model Y vs Model 3 HVAC energy comparison.

I conducted a similar test, Model 3 and Model Y outside in 40 degree weather, ran the climate at 70 degrees both for the same time period. After 5 hours, the Model 3 lost 25% battery, and the Model Y lost 14%. So, particularly given the larger cabin volume, the Model Y is definitely more...

Model Y vs Model 3 HVAC energy comparison.

Interesting, thanks for sharing the data. I'm curious to see what people are getting for average kWh consumption. I've got the Model Y Performance with 21" wheels, and overall consumption over about 240 miles so far is around 330kWh/mile with mixed city and highway and a fair amount of rain...

    Version Number?

Interesting, based on this vanishingly small data set, my theory that each batch of 1000 Model Y's received a slightly different system version... :) Or at least a different version number.

    MY Air Suspension?

I concur... I traded my X for the Y and while in theory it sounds awesome to be able to change the ride height, in practice it seems like there were tradeoffs. I had two different Model X's, a 2016 and a 2019, and there's no question the 2019 was smoother and much improved, however both cars...

    Version Number?

I'm on 2020.5.10.5. Just out of curiosity what the last 4 of your VIN? Mine is in the 5xxx, I wonder if the final decimal in the version number is somehow related to that, but it's unlikely. Often times the various models 3, S, X, etc have been on slightly different branches of the system so...

    Roof Rack Mounting Points

I was luck enough to take delivery of my Model Y today. One of the first things I did was measure the glass width at the roof rack mount points, and compare that with our Model 3. Sadly they are not the same, so we will have to wait for Tesla to release a Model Y rack I guess.

    Roof Rack Mounting Points

I saw a <very long> video (Tesla Model Y Ask Me Anything! Live Stream!) and they did find the mount points for the roof rack, still unclear whether the Model 3 rack will fit or if it needs a different size though.

    Model Y - Hands On

In over 100k miles of driving, including two coast to coast trips in the US, in Model X and Model 3, the best way to think about the range number in a Tesla is the same way you would look at the "estimated miles until empty" number in an ICE car. You can easily get WELL beyond the rated range in...
