My model S warranty expires in two months and I’m looking for an exhaustive list of things to inspect and possibly fix before it expires

In the past with Benz and BMW’s I had to complain and describe specifics, such as “customer states squeaky noise coming from from left part or car (would mean that they need to check out suspension or cv boot)”.

— I am looking for an exhaustive list of all items that can go wrong with an 8 year old model S with 100k miles, and then the proper ways to describe those things so that they have to look to see if anything is wrong. Anyone have such a list?

Contact this [email protected] they sell all Tesla model extended warranties. Here's what he told me about their plans

  • Inclusive: Since XCare was designed specifically for Tesla, you receive the same coverage that Tesla provides in their Extended Warranty but you pay only half the deductible - $100 vs $200 (Brochure attached – exclusions on second page)
    • XCare is available to ALL Tesla Owners, not just original owners of Model S and X.
    • You receive the same world-class coverage through XCare for Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y.
  • Comprehensive: All of your major systems are covered (MCU/ECU, mother/daughterboards, sensors (excluding TPMS) cameras, radar, battery thermal management, HVAC, braking system, suspension (excluding shock absorbers) half shafts, all switches and actuator motors (seats/windows etc) inverters, rectifiers, transformers and so much more. Nobody covers your Tesla better than XCare. (main battery/drive motor(s) covered by separate eight year Tesla warranty)

  • Easy to Use: Your XCare claims process is designed to work around Tesla's Service process. Your bill is paid directly to Tesla at vehicle pick up (Claims Process Attached). No other warranty coverage is so simple for you to use.
    • Tesla does not cooperate with traditional extended warranties because of their insistence on sending inspectors, lengthy approval process, demand for pictures, requests for lower per hour service rates, etc.
    • XCare was designed as more of a payment service, paying full rack-rate for service, insisting on OEM/new parts and never giving Tesla Service added headaches/hassles.
    • We simply pay the bill minus your deductible. That's it.
    • You can cancel at any time for a prorated refund, or transfer the balance of coverage to a private buyer for only $50. This is a great selling tool, as vehicles with a warranty sell up to 50% faster for more money.
Xcare does not cover HV battery or drive unit. I’m a pass

Thanks but I’ve heard through friends that some tesla service centers don’t deal with Xcare because they always try to negotiate down on service work. Any feedback on that?
No not true, at least that has never happened to me or anyone else I know that has XCare. Tesla diagnoses the car, they determine how its repaired. XCare is not involved in servicing your car, they just pay for the bill. I have had a few thousand dollars paid this way, literally no issue.

I know traditional warranty companies do this, thats why I tell people dont buy a warranty from one of those traditional companies, because they even buy used parts, and try to negotiate labor and stuff.

Perhaps this varies from state to state depending on statute but here in California Tesla service centers absolutely do not handle any form of insurance billing/subrogation.

The Tesla-owned collision repair / body shop locations of course do - but not the service centers.

This is directly from the XCare site. This aligns to my experience with them. They have paid directly for me in Illinois, Texas and in California. Maybe it comes down to who your Tesla person is - some of the employees I have met more recently dont seem to understand what to do nor very customer service savvy.

How To Use XCare

When you are an XCare member and experience a service issue, making a claim is simple.

01Service Issue
Navigate to our XCare claims form and enter your information, state your vehicle concern, and an XCare representative will follow up to guide you through your service/claim.

02Schedule for Service
For Tesla owners, please schedule service using your Tesla mobile app. For all other EVs, reach out to your nearest service center to schedule an appointment.

03Service Appointment
Once you have received an estimate, please forward to your XCare Claims representative so our team can authorize payment.

04Payment
Once your vehicle is complete, our team will be ready to send payment over to your Service Center. Either have your Service Advisor reach out for credit card payment over the phone or sent via email (minus the deductible). If you paid for service, simply send your paid invoice to XCare Claims for reimbursement.

As other said Tesla is like other expensive car, anything could happen out of warranty and that is the risk you take especially with an 8 years old car that is considered first gen.

Check the most expensive stuff like:L drive unit and battery and budget 15-20K just incase.

Every time I decided to keep a car after warranty I treat is as there was still payment on it (take the money and put it a side monthly, if you need it then you have it. if not then count your blessing)

We never negotiate hourly rate or parts costs, we simply pay the retail bill minus the deductible. We actually get "off the record" referrals from lots of SCs because of their positive experiences with us. Check us out at www.xcelerateauto.com/xcare for our handy quote calculator and info. Cheers!
