Navigation Issues

Initially, I thought the navigation system would improve automatically. Evidently, that isn’t going to happen. I realize living rurally may be a challenge, but Gainesville, FL is a relatively large city & the route to the Jacksonville airport shouldn’t be that difficult. I guess I still have faith that “they” will rectify the situation, & in the interim good ole Siri on my iPad is a reliable back-up. ‍♀️

Hi Nikola,

Please add details: Year of car, MCU, software of car, and Map data level...

We may be able to help or direct you...

I live in rural Michigan and the navigation is great...

It also worked great for a trip to Delray Beach in January...

Shawn

Thanks. Shawn,

Our 2019 X has an MCU2 with long range & full self-driving capability. Apologies, IDK what you mean by map data level.

Also describe the routing problem. Like routing you down a dead end street. Is it possible the routing knows better than you?

Thanks, for your response but the routing problems I’m experiencing are for example: sending me to a suburban neighborhood for the UPS office in Gainesville; routing me circuitously through downtown Starke, FL to get to the Jacksonville Airport; going in the wrong direction for the UF Physicians Office. I could name more, but you get it.

Hi Nikola,

We are getting closer...
By the map data - more specifically the navigation data level is shown on the software
screen directly below the software level for your car.
Current is NA-2020.12.11866
See the attached picture.
Nav Data Software.jpg

the next area to check are your Navigation Settings:
Auto Navigation - Should be off
Trip Planner - Should be off
Online Routing - Should be off
Avoid Ferries - Should be off
Avoid tolls - Should be off
Use HOV lanes - Should be On
See the picture:
Nav Settings.jpg

Some of what I recommend are different than my settings
because mine are set for long distance driving...

I am not familiar with your area BUT there should be good map data (if current)
for Gainesville...

Starke is on your way to the Jacksonville Airport, so maybe one of your settings
makes it perform differently than you customarily drive...
Most nav systems are good compromise performers.
Do I always agree with the way mine directs me - No...

BUT it keeps me calm at 65 mph in Kansas City where the quick exit
always seems to be behind a loaded and spilling dump truck...

Good luck,

Shawn

Thank you, Shawn. I changed the navigation settings to your recommendations. And, we have the latest version update: (2020.24.6.9 9a5f3cf2c682). Ours doesn’t have a NA . . .

I agree that I don’t always agree with the routes, ie: most of the time I prefer not to travel on the interstate locally anyway; and, perhaps the new US301construction to the Jacksonville airport hasn’t refreshed yet in the software; either way it’s not a deal breaker; maybe there were some unexpected solar flares when I was using the system. ‍♀️Lol.

Thanks again,
Patricia & Dana

Hi Patricia and Dana,

Please check with your Tesla Sales and Service entities.
Please check to see if there is a download "hangup" or situation
why you are not showing the latest navigation update.
I think you should have this without FSD or other "enhanced" navigation.

Good luck,

Shawn
