I am not sure whether this is related or not.
Sometimes when using navigation, I too get the notification to stay straight on a highway even though there is no major cross street or other obvious need to make a turn.
I have observed a couple of things:
On a divided highway (i.e., at-grade crossings) sometimes the map displays "CA1 Morro Bay" The navigation displays "continue straight in 4.1 miles." Upon reaching this demarcation there is a minor cross street that might go to a county park or something of the sort. Then the map displays "Santa Rosa Avenue San Luis Obispo." I am still on CA1; only the highway acquires the name of the street or road.
I have seen similar displays at the dreaded "End Freeway" signs even though there is no cross street.
I have seen this on really desolate roads in the desert or in the mountains where a dirt road veers off at an angle.
I've wondered about it; fortunately I do not think that I have lost any sleep.
