I think there's some benefits of using the hitch to carry things like this vs. a roof rack. What are your takes?

I'm wary of the roof rack because:
1. There's been a lot of people talking about their glass roofs cracking
2. With the racks on, there is some wind noise and range decrease
3. The hitch seems to be able to handle more weight anyway

I just changed my order from tow hitch to no tow hitch.

Originally, I was thinking that the tow hitch would provide value when we need to move cross country twice in the next couple of years (wife finishing residency and wants to do fellowship). The math just didn't add up since I think the range takes a pretty large hit when towing a trailer AND we will be carrying the 30-40 lb hitch for all those times when we don't need to use it.

I do agree that the hitch seems like a better fit for bikes but we plan on using a roof cargo box for skiing. Even though we expect range to take a hit, we don't think it will be significantly more. I guess we will all learn together this winter!
