We have a lot of clinicians & well-connected folks here on this forum. As a few of you know, I volunteer a lot of time with a program for teens in the California foster program. These kids' stories could break anyone's heart - and it's immensely gratifying to see them come from 'broken' to proud, young adults, ready to tackle the world.

I'm checking in with a request to see if you can ping your medical network and find someone that specializes in epilepsy treatment who might be willing to volunteer time to help a kid who has just transitioned from the program to living on his own.

He's in trade school pursuing his dream, but because of epilepsy that cannot be brought under control, is about to lose both his driver's license and ultimately his ability to attend school. The foster program tells me his state-supplied MediCal doctor 'is horrible' and believes that his epilepsy could be brought under control with someone who knows what they're doing. (We're also working on getting him a trained service dog that can identify the onset of a seizure with enough time for him to get himself into a safe place before the seizure hits - but obviously would be better to get it under control...)

I would be willing to pick up the costs of lab tests and other expenses that wouldn't be covered - so this really is a request for some time only, no out-of-pocket expenses.

Could you check within your network and see if anyone could help this kid trying to make a life for himself? If you know of someone, please private message me & I'll supply my contact info.
