I currently have a 2012 Leaf that I purchased used for $5400 over a year ago. I'm pushing 40% loss overall, but no biggie as I can charge at work and the car was cheap, so every mile I log in essentially saves me money. I am absolutely DYING however to get a Tesla as I've wanted one for a decade now since I saw the first Roadster. Model S's have dropped in price enough to where they have my attention... but the potential high cost of repairs scare me. That is one area where the 1st gen Leaf has excelled in. Other than battery loss, generally there isn't much a replacement 12 volt battery doesn't fix.
