RB is looking to sponsor 3 track drives with the following qualification to test drive this Track Kit:
  1. Minimum 3 years track experience.
  2. Car must be a dedicated track car and is one of the listed American Muscle cars, plus GT-R and M5.
  3. Rebuilding calipers at least once.
Qualified individual will
  • Receive 30-50% discount on purchase.
  • 100% warranty against any performance issue at any tracking condition as fast as you can run your Plaid on tracks
  • If your brake task is determined to be above what this iron kit can handle, the CCB kit will be replaced at cost difference (100% credit on iron kit purchase).
Please contact us for further details if you are qualified and interested.
Why don’t you use your Plaid?
Ohh that’s probably because you don’t have one.
I own a Tesla with track mode. Wouldn’t put your stuff on my Tesla even if you paid me to!!!

Hi Everyone,

Here is the big brake kit we were talking about. In the flesh, not just some drawings :) We actually just mocked them up earlier today.

The rotor is 20mm larger in diameter than stock, and 1mm thicker. The rotor is also 4.4lbs lighter than the OEM rotor.

This is a prototype that we'll be testing in the coming days. As promised!

And a picture from the TeamPGR Plaid that we have here to do development on testing at TMP earlier this week, I would say it looks the part!

This forum certainly needs more healthy, unbiased, and quality posts like this one - Providing an overall view on what a Plaid owner should be looking at "based on their own needs" and why.

Anyone deserves to express his opinion but NO ONE should attempt to use it whether it's a "true experience" or "fabricated story" to override or mislead on others in this community. Especially for a vehicle not only is too heavy but so fast that can be considered as a moving bomb if a driver (no or little track experience) is misled.

Rather than using "TRUST ME", let's "TRUST NUMBERS" because the number don't lie. And learn how to respect others opinion and post responsibly - Remember this is a forum not your classroom.

The forum Admin is being informed to watch for any misleading/unsubstantiated posts.

I don’t think anyone is surprised…

Was regen on or off out of curiosity? In the earlier models regen had to be turned off or else the pack overheated after a few laps.

Check out unplugged performance if you want to make it track worthy

Complete brake upgrade option for Plaid:

Standard iron brakes:

Carbon ceramic brakes:

The BBK is developed for dedicated tracking or hardcore competition racing with 420x34/390x28mm rotors (both iron and CCB).

Front kit is equipped with RB6L track duty calipers, same as our offer for OE/Brembo "direct replacement*" caliper upgrade for Nissan GTR, Porsche 911, McLaren (570S/720S), Mustang GT350/GT500

*Direct mount to OE spindle w/o using bracket or adapters.

I'm surprised they faded after the first lap. I know it's a heavy car, but how hard were you pushing it? The heaviest car I've tracked was only 3,200 lbs (about 1,500 lbs lighter than the Plaid) and try to stay below 80% of the limit and typically run for 20-30 minutes per session. If the brake fade is as bad as you state, I would look into larger rotors, pads and fluid that tolerate a higher temp, and ductwork. I would also start keeping data of braking distance and taking temperatures with an IR gun. Do you think the brake fluid temp got close to the limit? Sounds like you ought to talk to some of the R&D folks at Unplugged since they probably have the most data.

Turns out the tration control uses the brakes so they heat up faster the harder you corner. Sucks for sure.
Well this answers the question why are the brakes so bad on the Plaid. Nothing new, they must be very aggressive with braking though. I had a Fiesta ST years ago found out Ford was using this to combat the torque steer. They called it torque vectoring.
They also used braking technology for the rear to help with rotation.

The track pack is coming, I posted a thread a while back and on the parts catalogue there was an option for 20" tires that were 305 in the rear hinting to that becoming an option soon. I am sure Tesla will at least add bigger better brakes. When the track pack is released no one knows yet
