Portland To Winnemucca

We are evaluating a route from Portland, OR, to the SW and would like to go via Winnemucca, NV. We see that there is supposed to be a public (?) charger in Burns, OR, and a charger at "Say When", Mcdermitt, NV. Does anyone know anything about the Burns charger, exact location, level, connection. It sounds like the "Say When" is a Tesla WC but not sure. We will be using an MX 75D and will charge full in Bend.

We usually go to the SW via Boise, Twinn Falls, and then down. I do not find any meaningful information on Charge Point and on EVtriplanner haven't figured out how to enter a route.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, Plugshare is the best, most complete, most current listing of ALL kinds of charging resources.
I have been to both of those ones you are asking about and used one of them. They are both J1772 stations and supply 70 or 80 amps. The one in Burns is on the back of the Chamber of Commerce building, which is on the one main street through town, so you can't miss it. There is also a 14-50 outlet there with a closing metal cover, so there is the possibility for another car to charge at the same time. But really...it's Burns. There aren't going to be two cars there at the same time.

I have used the one at the Say When Casino in McDermitt. If you plan it as a lunch stop, it's not bad. They have a pretty good cafe, so I got some food and used their free wi-fi, for about an hour and then when I was about to head out, I ordered a latte to go from the bar area.

The 15Kw charger @ Just Say When is courtesy of the TMC user jackbowers and the Casino. Please send a contact to Tesla that we need a couple superchargers at this location. Perhaps with many requests, we can get Tesla to step up and fill the hole.

Daughter in Burns, brother in Fallon. Jack and I had the charger put in at Burns because I needed one, and have made the jump to Winnemucca several times, BUT I drive an S 90D. I have never stopped at the "Say When" since I know I can make the jump, but I would guess I would if I were driving an X, and I definitely would if I had only a 75.

There's not much to do in Burns while you're waiting, except visit Oregon's largest kitchen store (everything imaginable) on the same block. Besides Jack Bowers, the Chamber of Commerce (clean bathrooms 24-7) and the editor of the Burns newspaper helped me get this set up.

It would be great to have Tesla superchargers here. We've already discussed where they would go. Tesla says Burns is not on its priority list at this point.

If anyone ever has a problem with a long jump, consider putting in a used 80 (or 70) amp charger. This forum will likely have someone who would help.

This route through eastern Oregon on Hwy 95 (Boise to Winnemucca) will soon be much better because of the Say When Casino, who is graciously going to add Destination chargers. I sent a note to the Destination Charging team and got a very quick reply shown below. We should all make it a point to stop and patronize this helpful business.

Thanks for your note.

Tesla has already spoken with and shipped stations to Say When Casino; we are just waiting on the property to complete the installation.

Thank you,

Destination Charging Team
